SAMSHA Funding $7.4M to Tackle Mental Health Crisis

HHS https://www.hhs.gov through the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA, https://www.samhsa.gov recently announced grant funding totaling about $74.4 million.

The funding will be used to address behavioral health challenges in local communities such as how to prevent substance use initiation, reduce the progression of substance use, plus address other related concerns.

Grant Funding Opportunities Announced Include:

  1. Grants for Expansion and Sustainability of the Comprehensive Community Mental Health Services for Children with Serious Emotional Disturbances (CMHI) for $30.4 million.
  2. Tribal Behavioral Health Grants for $13.1 million. The program will try to prevent and reduce suicidal behavior and substance use/misuse, prevent overdoses, reduce the impact of trauma, and promote mental health among American Indian/Alaska Native youth, by building a healthy network of systems, services, and partnerships that impact youth.
  3. Funding for Strategic Prevention Framework-Partnerships for Success to go to States for $15.5 million. The program is going to help states, including U.S Territories, Pacific Jurisdictions, and D.C., reduce the onset and progression of substance misuse and related problems by supporting the development and delivery of state and community substance misuse prevention and mental health promotion services.
  4. Strategic Prevention Framework-Partnerships for Success for Communities, Local Governments, Universities, Colleges, and Tribes/Tribal Organizations for $15.5 million. The purpose of this program is to help communities, local governments, universities, colleges, and tribes/tribal organizations reduce the onset and progression of substance misuse and related problems by supporting the development and delivery of community-based substance misuse prevention and mental health promotion services.
