HHS FY 2024 Budget Request for ONC HIT
The FY 2024 budget recently released requests $104 million for the HHS Office of the National Coordinator (ONC) for HIT which is an increase of $37 million above the FY 2023 enacted level.
The requested funding would support the exchange of information between health information networks and facilitate coordination with federal, state, and local partners on issues related to health IT policies and interoperability needs.
The FY 2024 budget includes $39 million for ONC's Policy Development and Coordination work, which is a proposed increase of $18 million above the FY 2023 enacted level.
ONC would also provide requested budget funds to go to resources to support state, territorial, local, and tribal public health agencies seeking to improve improve public health outcomes, work with stakeholders to develop health IT standards, advance interoperability, and integrate health data from remote or wearable monitoring devices into EHR systems.
The FY 2024 budget request addresses gaps in health IT data related to social determinants of health, race/ethnicity, plus the proposed funding would create more patient-centered healthcare opportunities for decreasing health disparities in health IT.
