Spotlight Member of the Month
Meet this month's Spotlight Member, Karl Hogan from Your World Healthcare!
Can you tell us about Your World Healthcare, what you do, and how you came to be?
YWHC is a healthcare agency that supplies staff into multiple sectors of healthcare in Ireland. I am one of the consultants on the nursing and HCA team. My main role is to recruit staff for the agency and manage their working schedule. I also am the main point of contact for the candidates' payroll as I process all timesheets for my team.
I started out in Your World after I was referred to Angelo by my former boss who is his Fiancée. I was working with her as a bartender in the Portmarnock Hotel and Golf links for a little over 3 years. I also spent some time in the Irish Defence Force as it was a dream of mine since I was a kid, but I found out it should have just stayed a dream.
What has your co-working experience been like?
My co-working experience has been fantastic. I have really enjoyed being able to meet and talk to new people working in various jobs.
The facilities are in the View are great with one of the highlights of my workday being going for a coffee in the social area as there is always something going on down there.
What keeps you well?
I have a number of hobbies that keep me well. My most frequent ones would be Rock climbing, Skateboarding and Motorbike riding. I have a love for adrenaline and keeping active.
I also am an actor, so I spend a lot of my time outside of the office watching films and studying acting techniques.
What's the best career advice you've received?
The best career advice I have received is from my mentor Anthony Whelan “Never focus on the money always focus on the job. If you focus on doing the job then the money will come after”. It's due to this advice that I started working 2 jobs as a way of bettering my chances for the future.
What's your favourite book/series/film and why?
(Book) I am number 4 - I can’t even remember the number of times I read the series. It painted a world that I craved to live in and the character 9 was described the same as I'd describe myself.
(TV Series) Teen life – The first TV series I acted in so it has a special place in my heart as I loved the message we portrayed and have so many fond memories of my time on set.
What does the future of work look like for you?
I will continue to work on my acting career and hope that it will become my main profession in the future, but I also know how big of a task that is.
I will also continue to work as the Music Entertainment Lead for Shadowhawk Entertainment as I love getting to work in live events and couldn’t imagine life without music in it.
I will also look to grow my role within Your World as it is has given me a real sense of accomplishment knowing how many people are getting taken care of due to my efforts.
