Spotlight on Dyno Nobel Helidon
I found myself using a term in almost all the content I have been creating lately, swaying between original taglines and catch phrases, however I have always been a fan of removing the fluff in my writing and refining the message I am sending into the ether.?
I keep coming back to the tagline “Looking for a career and not just another job”
I sometimes laugh at the clichés in advertising, more importantly employment ads - as I can be critical coming from an advertising background.
But sometimes the statement is so true, the only way to get the message across is by perpetuating the cliché.?
I’ve spent the last three months travelling to the different sites within our business and meeting all of the wonderful people who make up Incitec Pivot Limited.?
The one constant I’m finding are the people who’ve spent most of their working life with us, people who have been in the business for 13 years, as is the case with one of our team leaders, Nick Kenafake and Cheryl Tillack who have been with us thirty four years.?
I’ve worked across Australia for many companies, have seen the systems and training from the resources giants and energy tycoons and the one difference I’ve noticed is the message that comes from the top of our business, the values and ethos are the same as the ones people speak on the shop floor.?I’ve never seen this before in any of the companies I’ve worked for, not to the extent I’ve seen with IPL.?
In saying that, I’m going to be shining a spotlight on our Helidon Dyno Nobel site over the next month, part of the Lockyer Valley, giving great employment opportunities to the wider Toowoomba area in Queensland.??
I’ll be speaking with some of our people working within the business, showcasing the site and posting some of our active roles.?
We have a current requirement in our Maintenance team so I thought it would be a great idea to speak with someone from the shop floor.
I recently sat down with Dave Anderson, who was able to give me some great info on what it’s like to work out of our Helidon branch and tell me more about himself.
So Dave, when did you start working for Dyno Nobel in Helidon??
I started working with Dyno in March fourteen years ago.?I came from working as a “Yard Monkey” for Metalcorp, sorting orders and just doing general yard work.?

What was the experience like for you coming into the business??
It was great, out of the summer heat and winter rain and into the aircon and a temperature controlled environment.? It was a little intimidating to start with, knowing we are working with explosive devices but once I did the safety inductions, and knew what controls we put in place, I wasn’t bothered by it then.?
So what’s a typical day for you Dave??
I’m in the maintenance team so we have our prestart meeting, go over any items from the shift before, take a look at our work orders and the priorities for the shift.?I’m constantly learning and our days are always completely different than the last.?There’s always something new to learn, different people to work with and every day there’s a new challenge.?I’m responsible for the repair and upkeep of our assets and working through our business maintenance plan.?
Dave, what type of people succeed in this business??
Anyone with a drive to better themselves and enjoy learning new things.?Also if you like a fun work place, we have some good people in the business who make the job worthwhile.?
What do you like most about Dyno Nobel as a company??
Definitely the people in the business.?Our people are the number one priority and the managers care about their workforce.?We’re one big family.
So Dave what’s next??
The company are looking at putting me through further training and I’m just looking forward to learning more and offering more value to the business.?
