Spotlight on the Creative Industries in Latin America and the Caribbean

It’s not hard to think of creative talents in Latin America and the Caribbean – a region that inspired Frida Kahlo, Shakira, Pía León, Bob Marley, the Oscar-winning animated feature “Encanto,” and created numerous musical genres. But little known are the nuts and bolts of the creative industry business.
In this edition of IFC Insights, we focus on the industry broadly: my colleague Alison Buckholtz writes about the challenges and opportunities for Latin America and the Caribbean’s fast-growing creative industries. Eveline Smeets and Iain Bain analyze how digital technologies are already building new pathways in emerging markets to unlock the creative economy.
And we zero in on what’s happening in the arts scene: Aida Sykes interviews two leading fashion designers to find out how they have adapted to work during COVID-19, and Mauricio González Lara explores Mexico City’s great awakening – with many live music events happening in recent months.
Please join us tomorrow for UpNext, a virtual event featuring conversations with and performances by talented Latin American and Caribbean musicians, producers, and artists such as Carlos Vives, Kevin Lyttle, and Azultrabuco. We invite you to register here. Enjoy the stories and the event – we hope you appreciate both the artists, the creativity and new potential investments to support them.?
