?Why did you choose Appleby?
“Appleby stood out for me because it is an entrepreneurial firm. We have an established and respected brand and a network of ten offices globally in key jurisdictions, delivering a breadth of experience and expertise and a holistic approach to our clients across several time zones. Our business-building mentality means we are always looking for fresh opportunities with new and existing clients and we are all hungry to win new work and motivated to provide the very best client service. It is also very important to me to work somewhere where people like each other, that is diverse and where people want to come to work. We have that at Appleby as we have a positive environment where everyone gets to happily play their part.”
?What do you enjoy most about your job?
“The supportive environment within an industry-leading team is excellent. We support each other at all levels in the business and from the administrative teams to the strategic executive decision makers, everyone is involved, and this brings out the best in every situation. The variety of eminent transactions that we work on a daily basis is one of the aspects I enjoy the most about my job as we are constantly working on interesting, complex, multi-jurisdictional transactions. I also get to see our client businesses and portfolios grow, sometimes exponentially and a number have become household names. In the financing and private equity world, being a part of their journey and watching clients evolve is fascinating and seeing clients go from strength to strength is genuinely gratifying. We are also encouraged to enjoy downtime socially as a team and with our clients and intermediaries, which I really enjoy.”

?What are your Appleby highlights?
“We like to celebrate our people and one of my most recent highlights was celebrating one of our colleague’s 50th work anniversary at Appleby! We had a fun colleague event for John Bisson and we also held a surprise big birthday party for him too. He turned up with his business cards thinking he was going into a client meeting; he was so surprised and really touched by the effort that had been made. We also celebrate when we get deals done. March 2022 was a big month working hard with our great team on an impressive multi-jurisdictional flagship transaction for the Channel Islands. Brand new lawyers, partners and support staff all pulled together to meet the client’s deadline. We all had a well-deserved long lunch as a team to celebrate, which was fantastic and a real highlight of the year.”
?What does life look like for you outside of the office?
“When I joined Appleby, I was inspired by a couple of our lawyers who were competing in triathlons, so I decided to give it a go too and I completed four in the first year! The firm’s flexible working policy means we can legitimately take time out when we need to, whether that is for childcare, deliveries or for exercise. It is very much encouraged to enjoy training and working out. I was part of the three relay teams that we entered into the Marathon this year, which was a lot of fun and a great team-building event, with a spread of Appleby participants from our IT, HR, Finance, Strategy and Compliance teams together with our trainees plus new and venerable lawyers too. I seem to have developed a passion for sports cars and motorbikes, and I have been to the Grand Prix a few times, the Moto Grand Prix at Le Mans was a highlight. I used to be in a jazz band so I enjoy music, and you won’t believe it, but I can also juggle fire and knives, but not together at the same time!”
