SPOTLIGHT ON: BOOMERANG EMPLOYEES WITH RACHELLE MCGOWAN

SPOTLIGHT ON: BOOMERANG EMPLOYEES WITH RACHELLE MCGOWAN

For our next few employee profiles, we’re talking to our boomerangs. A boomerang team member is one who has voluntarily left us to pursue another opportunity, then has re-joined down the track. Ideally the time away from Winc has been an opportunity for learning and growth, and obtaining new skills that can be applied to a new role.???

Today we’re hearing from Rachelle McGowan , Senior Marketing Manager.?

Why did you decide to return to Winc and what did you learn while you were away???

Throughout my career, across publishing, FMCG, start-ups and global luxury companies I’ve had to learn how to embrace ambiguity and uncertainty in times of transformation. Leaning into this mindset was essential during my time at a Tech startup. The startup also allowed me the space to embrace the entrepreneurial spirit and energy that startups are known for.????????

I came back to Winc for the opportunity to work with great leaders and the team again.? We’re always thinking of ways that we can innovate the industry while remaining authentic to our brand and creative.?

Find a leader whose style resonated with you.??

Linda A Reid is one of the best leaders I’ve had the privilege of working with. She was one of the key reasons I re-joined Winc. Her effortless way of driving innovation, better outcomes and engaging team members along the way inspires those around her.??

I have been given incredible opportunities to grow under Linda and Nick Severino 's leadership. They’re wonderful mentors and their style really resonates with me – the perfect balance between pushing me out of my comfort zone and believing in me in a way that naturally builds my confidence and self-belief.??

Rhiannon Lelliott and I have had a similar career trajectory at Winc so it’s truly invaluable to have her as a peer, by my side as we’ve navigated the Winc world.? Our work relationship shows that you can work hard, but you don’t need to constantly compete with team members. There are opportunities for us all to be successful and shine.??

Anticipation, adaptation and agility?

Bring the best you’ve got to every opportunity!??

Anticipation, adaptation and agility are core skills. Winc is a dynamic business where we go after opportunities at a quick pace so having the ability to understand, anticipate and adapt will serve you well to deliver on the needs of the business while working cross functionally.??

Listen, versus being in action all the time!???

Establish true and meaningful connections with people across the business.??

Also, if you’re told no again and again, you might be talking to the wrong person! This is something that I have lived by. No one is going to have your best interest or want you to succeed like you do. So you really need to be in the driver's seat.??

Show up, be open, be curious and deliver??

I don’t think we talk about the simple things enough when talking about career advice - Consistency is key. Consistency is a small, daily action that has a huge impact. Show up, be open, be curious and deliver consistently and you will start to build a reputation as someone that people can depend on. Then you begin to have all these relationships that have been built on rapport and trust and naturally new opportunities unfold.?

?

Thanks Rachelle. We love having you back on the Winc team and wish you many, many more years of success within the organisation.??
