SPOTLIGHT ON BOOMERANG EMPLOYEES WITH CARLY COLLET

SPOTLIGHT ON BOOMERANG EMPLOYEES WITH CARLY COLLET

Today we’re hearing from another of our Winc boomerangs - Carly Collet . Carly started with Winc in June 2008 as a Regional Sales Manager and over the course of 9 years held roles in Enterprise and Strategic Account Management. Between 2017 and 2023 Carly spent time building her skill set with Blackwoods and Telstra, before returning to Winc in April this year as our State Sales Manager WA/NT.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us, Carly.

What did you miss about Winc and what drew you back?

There are 3 key things I missed while being out of the business:

1.??????The positive impact that cross-functional collaboration has on performance,

2.??????Our genuine commitment to support the communities in which we live and work as part of our Social Agenda, and

3.??????The focus everyone has on delivering the best experience for our customers.

What did you learn while you were away?

In my role prior to recommencing with Winc, I was responsible for eight team leaders and 140 team members. When you are leading a team of that size, clear communication and prioritisation of objectives and tasks is critical in order to deliver against performance objectives. That role required me to refine those skills, which will be invaluable now that I’m back at Winc.

How important have peers and mentors been in your career?

I have been so fortunate that in returning to the business, there a lot of familiar faces and new faces who have made me feel very welcome. Everyone I have crossed paths with has offered to assist where they can, and I feel like no question would be too silly to ask.

In terms of mentors, I have met some great people in both of my stints with the business who have guided me in my career. And as cheesy as it sounds my Dad, who has held a number of senior leadership roles in his career, has guided me a lot on my journey in people leadership.

What do you find most rewarding about your current role?

As a people leader, I am passionate about professional development, so I get a lot of satisfaction in supporting my team to achieve their role objectives, and business and personal potential. When I can look back and see that I have had a positive impact on someone’s career, it is very rewarding.

What advice would you give someone who wants to take their career at Winc to the next stage?

I have picked up a few key things in my career that I would recommend to anyone wanting to progress.

1.??????Perform consistently in your current role. Demonstrating you can achieve against current expectations is a great first step.

2.??????Have an idea about the area of the business/role you would like to be in, based on your skills, interests and career progression goals.

3.??????Let your Manager know about your aspirations so they can support you.?

4.??????Work with them on a career development plan which may include, but not be limited to having a mentor, “day in the life” buddy program, formal courses/training and stretch assignments.

Best career advice?

There is a book I often recommend to people called “The Leader who had no title” by Robin Sharma. It shares tips for success irrespective of what level you are in an organisation or what stage you are at in your career. Everyone has the power to show leadership, take ownership and perform at your best. This can really set you up for a fantastic career no matter what your goals are.
