A Spotlight on Black Excellence

A Spotlight on Black Excellence

This month and always, we're proud to honor the rich history and contributions of the Black community to Lennox and the HVACR industry. We're passionate about fostering belonging and providing employees with resources and opportunities to develop, grow, and thrive in and out of work.

Louis Hill began his journey with Lennox seven years ago as a contractor and earned a full-time role with his promotion to Warranty Trainer. He made an immediate impact in the Warranty department and created several standard operating procedures (SOPs) that remain in place today. Louis is currently the Warranty Supervisor and worked closely with our Sales effectiveness team to launch Salesforce for the department. He proudly serves as the Vice President of Events for the Lennox Young Professionals Association.

Louis graciously shared his insights as a Black professional for our spotlight on Black excellence.

How has your cultural background influenced your approach to work and collaboration?

"As a minority, you always want to be treated equally. This is how I approach work: whether you are the custodian or the CEO, you treat everyone equally because we are all equal. When collaborating, diversity is key. When we understand and appreciate other people’s cultures, we are more likely to be successful."

Are there specific challenges you've faced as a Black professional, and how have you overcome them?

"The challenges that I face are only because I made them a challenge. I walk into Lennox, and I see photos in the lobby of the Master Council of different awards and accomplishments, but I don’t see anyone who looks like me. I challenge myself to break those barriers."

In what ways has Lennox supported your professional development and advancement?

"Lennox does a fantastic job, especially with the launch of Career Journey. I can see where I am at in my career and the path to my goal. I also picked a mentor who helps with my professional growth."

What advice do you have for aspiring professionals, especially those from underrepresented backgrounds?

"Find your passion. If you are passionate about your work, you will always do your best to achieve your goals. Find a mentor. Mentors will help you navigate your journey. Build a plan and follow through. I have a motto I often say: Believe it – Conceive it – Achieve it."

What initiatives or changes can further promote diversity and inclusion in our workplace?

"Lennox does an excellent job promoting diversity and inclusion, and the ERGs also make an enormous impact in this area. I wouldn't change anything because we are heading in the right direction."

How do you celebrate and honor Black History Month?

"Personally, I do not celebrate Black History Month because I believe that we cannot have American History without Black History. Just like American History, Black history is a part of all of us every day all year. I honor it by being the best version of myself I can be. People died to give me an opportunity, and I will not let that go to waste."
