Spotlight on The Armed Forces Covenant

We work extensively with the Ministry of Defence in the United Kingdom and the U.S. Army in North America.

We believe that we and all providers have a social responsibility to support the men and women of the Armed Forces. In the United Kingdom, we do this as one of 10,000 companies that have partnered with The Armed Forces Covenant.

This work is important to us. It involves a lot of charity work and organisation, and we love it. Engaging in this work helps us stay grounded and connected with our community. We’re incredibly proud to be able to engage in this social responsibility.

What is The Armed Forces Covenant

The Armed Forces Covenant promises that armed forces veterans and their families receive the support and recognition they rightfully deserve as they transition into civilian life.?

It upholds the fundamental principle that those who have served their country, whether Regular or Reserve Forces, should not be disadvantaged due to their service.

The Covenant aims to address issues such as employment, healthcare, and education by providing commitments from the government, businesses, and communities to support veterans and their families.

Our Work with the Covenant

Our commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant in the United Kingdom and to similar measures in the United States of America highlights our commitment to supporting veterans.?

Through our practical collaborations and initiatives with armed forces organisations, we provide tangible training and assistance to armed forces personnel, facilitating a smoother transition into civilian life.? This underscores the practical value of bridging the gap between military service and the civilian workforce and highlights the tangible benefits of skills and experiences acquired during active service.

In particular, our European content development team does a great deal of work studying the role that somebody’s working in, trying to understand its complexities, and managing that in a secure environment. We offer training that meets the needs of our staff who work with us through the Covenant.?

Our responsibility extends beyond their work hours. We work to help ease the transfer back into work and civilian life.

Shifting Gears

One programme we’re particularly proud of is Shifting Gears. This US programme helps get veterans into the automotive technician line of work.

This work is in partnership with General Motors and offers job training for soldiers transitioning to civilian life. Based in Fort Hood, Texas, the programme allows soldiers to learn automotive technician skills in the last twelve weeks of their active duty, qualifying them as entry-level GM technicians when they retire.

This programme addresses two significant needs: it supplies new technicians to an industry facing a national shortage and offers a career shift for veterans re-entering civilian life.

Shifting Gears was awarded the 2022 Torch Employer of the Year by Workforce Solutions of Central Texas.
