Spotify’s e-learning experiment lets you learn “How to run a business”.
Spotify, a music streaming platform, is growing more tentacles. Aside from their existing categories of music, podcasts, and audiobooks, they’re now adding online courses.
The new service is currently being tested in the U.K. And the experiment will see video-based lessons from BBC Maestro, Skillshare, Thinkific, and PlayVituoso accessed on their app.
How it started
After Spotify realized that more than half of their consumers swung by to consume educational content from podcasts, they added an educational vertical. As a result, per their product editor, Mohit Jitani, they saw it fit to experiment and see if you would like it and consume it.?
Spotify is offering courses within four categories on how to:
The courses above are currently operating on a freemium basis to everyone on the platform; both free users and premium users. Each user has free access to two video courses. And if further interested, a full course costs between €20 - €120 on average.
You can consume the video courses in an audio form with the screen turned off. Also, supplementary materials like PDFs are available for reading. All these materials are available on the platform to make it easier and more convenient for your access—no need to download another app and waste time switching between them.
Why the U.K.: because they are the company’s hugest market and it’s one of the most engaged in the world.
For those of us in other parts of the world, we will continue crossing our fingers so that the U.K. market accepts the product. And perhaps then we will learn how to make music.
