Early in the rise of the insurtechs, many predicted that digital technologies would make insurance agents obsolete.?A decade later, that dire prediction hasn’t come to pass.?Instead, insurtech leaders like Jeff Harris are building bridges between stakeholders in the insurance ecosystem.

Jeff brings a wealth of experience in software development to the insurance industry.?In 2005, he and his partner, Dimitri Nikouline, founded Appulate, a digital distribution platform for Property and Casualty carriers and their wholesale and retail partners.?Thanks to Jeff’s passion for team building and business development, more than 80,000 agency locations now use Appulate for their application and renewal processes.?As if that weren’t enough, Jeff is also the president of Murano Software and Insurance Tech Talent.?Both companies provide highly skilled technology professionals to augment clients’ in-house resources.

In discussing his own career path, Jeff poses an interesting question: is there the same level of entrepreneurial opportunities available in today’s insurance industry as there was a decade or two ago??Certainly, the influx of experts from other industries – especially the tech space – combined with socio-economic shifts triggered by the global pandemic have made the competition much more intense.

That same evolution of technology, however, also brings new opportunities.?Jeff explains that the “Frankenstein” approach to insurtech isn’t working.?Instead, he advocates finding the best solution for each step of the insurance process.?His platform, Appulate, for example, is optimized for submission management.?Jeff also explains that the rise of “open brokerages” also offers agents the chance to place a much wider range of business.?That means that the only limits on agents’ success are the ones they impose on themselves.
