Spot On Insurance Welcomes Danny Lee

Our friend Jerry Sullivan told Arleen and me several years ago that he felt that every insurance professional should start out as an adjuster. He explained when you deal with insureds and their losses you get the best insight into the true purpose of our industry. So if you’ve ever wanted to be an adjuster, Danny Lee is here to offer his insights on how to be a great one!

A second-generation insurance professional, Danny has worked in the industry for over 30 years with Farmers Insurance, managing and handling claims in liability, auto, property, commercial property, commercial liability, workers’ compensation, and farm & ranch. He also holds the CPCU designation. In 2018, Danny wrote his first book, The Art of Property Claims Adjusting. He’s even written several screenplays. (That’s a first for an SOI guest, I believe.)

Danny compares being an adjuster to the old-time circus act of spinning plates. New claims keep coming in as older claims move toward resolution. The important thing, he stresses, is to remember that you’re dealing with someone who’s had something bad happen to them. No matter how many claims you’re juggling, you need to treat every customer as if they were your only concern.

It takes a lot of skill to be able to do this often-difficult job accurately, efficiently (you want a healthy work-life balance after all), and in a way that consistently wows the customer. Danny shares his proven tips for working with clients, such as how to build trust with insureds, set appointments, and work effectively with contractors. His advice isn’t just for newbies, though. Danny also shows how to use these same techniques to train and retain a whole team of great adjusters. It’s also the focus of his next book!
