Spot On Insurance Welcomes Chris Greene
Ted Taveras
I have spent the last 20 years helping insurance professionals navigate the complexities of regulatory compliance
When Chris Greene decided to pursue a Master’s degree in emergency management, he planned to deal with weapons of mass destruction overseas. But on the day he started the program, Hurricane Katrina hit. Instantly, his focus shifted to flood mitigation, and he’s never looked back.
Chris’ interest in flood insurance began by accident as well. He wanted to buy a house that would have required a prohibitively expensive policy. He was able to prove that the assessment of the house was inaccurate and get an affordable policy, but the whole process made him want to create a better experience for others. As President of The Flood Insurance Guru, Chris provides flood education and mitigation consulting as well as flood insurance nationwide. That included his commitment in 2019 to create 365 educational videos in 365 days!
As Chris explains, flood risks are a subject that no one wants to talk about – including most insurance professionals. But without those frank conversations, misinformation spreads. A survey by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) found that 33% of U.S. heads of household still mistakenly believe that flood damage is covered by a standard homeowners’ policy. That leaves a lot of property owners unprotected! And with weather patterns changing faster than ever before, the need for education and closing the coverage gap has never been more urgent. It’s time to stop seeing flood insurance as a challenge, and start seeing it as an opportunity for the 2020s.
