SportsWonks: The Social Network for Sports Fans

SportsWonks: The Social Network for Sports Fans

Years ago, I was working at my parent’s liquor store in Hackensack, NJ. To pass the time, I’d read articles on ESPN and I’d spend hours commenting, going back and forth with other sports fans in heated debates about whether or not MJ is the GOAT, what the future had in store for the 49ers (unfortunately, I was wrong about the Harbaugh/Kaepernick era), and the Bulls (OK, maybe comparing D Rose to AI was a bit naive). At this time, I felt that there needed to be a dedicated place for sports fans to be able to chat about sports. Another thing that bothered me was how fragmented the online sports experience is — you need to go to ESPN for News, Facebook for Social, YouTube for Videos, and StubHub for Tickets. Not to mention all of the different apps that take up a sports fan’s home screen on a mobile screen.

After thinking over what solution would make the most sense for sports fans online, I came to the conclusion that it needed to start with a sports social network and content.

Based on that conclusion, the first iteration of SportsWonks’ core features are the Home Wall, My Profile, and Videos, which are pretty straight forward, but we eventually want to create an all-inclusive sports platform that allows for users to get sports social, content, news, tickets, and merchandise on the same platform. We also have a long term vision of using SportsWonks as a tool to actually drive youth back to the sports fields and courts by rolling out features including one that would allow someone to organize a local pick up game with a click of a button. #LongTermGoals

We ultimately want to become the heart of the online sports experience, not only for sports fans, but also for sports publishers, athletes, teams, and leagues as well.
