Celebrating Excellence at the 19th Asian Games
The 19th Asian Games, which took place from September 23 to October 8, 2023 in Hangzhou, China, was a stage where dreams turned into reality, and countless hours of hard work paid off. 34 exceptional athletes supported by the GoSports Foundation attained qualification to take part in the sporting event. Their extraordinary performances, showcasing skill, dedication, and the power of relentless determination, have made our nation proud.
These athletes come from diverse backgrounds, representing 13 states and participating in 12 different sports. They have been nurtured through 7 distinct programs offered by the GoSports Foundation. These statistics reflect the Foundation's commitment to fostering sporting talent across India.
With a total of 12 medals, these talented athletes left an indelible mark on the Asian Games. The medal tally boasts 6 Gold, 2 Silver, and 4 Bronze medals. From the cricket pitch to the archery range, from the race-walking track to the boxing ring, these athletes have excelled in their respective fields.
This year’s Asian Games campaign has marked a watershed moment for Indian sports. For the first time in history, the Indian contingent touched the 100 medals mark with an overall tally of 107 medals which included 28 Gold, 38 Silver and 41 Bronze medals.

ATHLETE PERFORMANCE ROUNDUP
In a remarkable showcase of sporting excellence at the Asian Games 2022, 32 athletes supported by the GoSports Foundation delivered amazing performances, amassing a total of 12 medals, consisting of 6 Gold, 2 Silver, and 4 Bronze medals.
Here are some of the key performers:
Athletics
Ram Baboo's stellar performance in the 35KM Race-Walking Mixed Relay earned him a Bronze. Ram, a village boy who waited tables at hotels, farmed under the MNREGA scheme during CoVID is now a medallist at the Asian Games.
Aishwarya Mishra showcased her excellence in Athletics by securing a Silver in the 4*400M Women’s Relay.
Coming from humble beginnings, Aishwarya played not just to win, but also to secure a good future for herself and her family. Earlier this year, she won a 400m bronze at Asian Athletics Championships in Bangkok and was part of the quartet that clinched the bronze in 4x400m relay.
After setting an Asian Record in Men’s Relay at the World Athletics Championship, Muhammed Anas continued the momentum with a gold in 4*400M Men’s Relay at the Asian Games, giving the team great promise for the future.
Badminton
Arjun M R and Sai Pratheek contributed to India's silver medal in Badminton Men’s Team events. Indian men's badminton team qualified for the final for the first time ever in the history of Asian Games, and secured the first Indian men's badminton team medal at the Games in 37 years.
Prannoy HS earned two medals, a Bronze in Men’s Singles and a Silver in Men’s Team events. He became only the second Indian to win an Asian Games medal in Men's Singles after Syed Modi in 1982.
Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy took home two medals, a Gold in Men’s Doubles and a Silver in Men’s Team events. This made them the World No 1 Badminton Men’s Doubles Pair and added to what has been a glorious year for them including first-ever gold at a Super 1000 championship by an Indian pair, the Indonesia Open.
Sailing
Vishnu Saravanan secured a well-deserved Bronze in Men’s Sailing ILCA7. With sailing in his blood, he and his sister, Ramya, followed in their father’s footsteps, securing medals at the Asian Games, and leaving a mark in the sport.
Boxing
Nikhat Zareen displayed her boxing prowess, earning a Bronze in the Women’s 50KG category. Nikhat, coming from humble beginnings from Nizamabad, is also the reigning world champion who has paved her way to become a trailblazer in the country with her sporting heroics over the years, and the Asian Games medal is a testament to that.
Cricket
Among the standout performers was Titas Sadhu, a vital member of the Indian Women’s Cricket team that clinched the Gold. Her exceptional performance, including three crucial wickets and a phenomenal over in the finals against Sri Lanka. This was the first medal for the Indian Women’s cricket team at the Asian Games.
Archery
The archery sensation, Jyothi Surekha, had a spectacular run, bagging three Gold medals in Women’s Compound Individual, Compound Mixed Team, and Women’s Compound Team events.

Triumphs at the 4th Asian Para Games
The 4th Asian Para Games, held in Hangzhou, China from October 22 to October 28, 2023 was not just an ordinary sporting event; it was a showcase of the spirit and resilience of 34 extraordinary athletes supported by the GoSports Foundation through the Para Champions Programme. These athletes emerged as the face of sporting excellence, not just for themselves but for our entire nation.
Hailing from diverse backgrounds, these para-athletes represent 11 states and union territories, competing in 11 different para-sports.
Out of the 43 para-athletes supported under the programme, a staggering 34 earned the qualification to compete at the Asian Para Games. This remarkable achievement underscores the potential and caliber of these athletes.
These para-athletes exhibited exceptional talent in their respective fields, spanning across para athletics, para swimming, para badminton, para taekwondo, para canoeing, para archery, boccia, para powerlifting, para shooting, para swimming, and para table tennis.

Para-Taekwondo
Aruna Tanwar, securing Bronze in Para Taekwondo Women's K44-47 Kg, became the first Taekwondo athlete to win a medal at the Asian Para Games.
Para-Athletics
Ankur Dhama demonstrated his prowess with two Golds in Men's 5000m T11 and 1500m T11 Run. Ekta Bhyan clinched a Bronze in Women's Club Throw F51, creating an Asian Record. Dharambir shone with a Silver in Men's Club Throw F51. Amit Saroha displayed immense talent, earning a Bronze in Men's Club Throw F51. Neeraj Yadav was a star with two Golds, one in Men’s Discus Throw F54/55/56, which was an Asian record in the category and one in Javelin Throw F55.
Narayan Thakur achieved two Bronze medals in Men's 200m and 100m T35 Run. Sumit Antil celebrated Gold in Men's Javelin Throw F64, with a world-record throw of 73.29m. Rakshitha Raju showcased her brilliance with a Gold in Women's 1500m T11 Run.
Para-Swimming
Suyash Jadhav displayed versatility, earning a Bronze in Para Swimming 50m Butterfly S7, setting a National Record and attaining the MET A Qualification Mark of Paralympics.
Para-Badminton
Tarun Dhillon added to the glory with a Gold in Men's Doubles SL3-SL4. Suhas Yathiraj extended his excellence in Para Badminton by securing Gold in Men's Singles SL4.
Para-Archery
Rakesh Kumar was the archery sensation, winning a Gold and two Silvers in Men's Compound Archery events.
