Purpose of Job: To work with and engage children through sport, improve behaviour and raise attainment. Work in class alongside children as well as working with children in smaller intervention groups.?Focus on children who may be struggling academically or emotionally.?Teach PE lessons and playtime sports.?Provide coaching for sporting events, competitions and after school clubs.
- To work with teachers and support staff and help to identify children who may need extra support in class.
- Work with children using sport and physical activity to help self regulate
- To provide sports activities at playtimes and lunchtimes
- To provide after school sports clubs
- To liaise with outside agencies, such as Tower Hamlets sports coaches, other schools in relation to sports competitions
- To follow the PE curriculum scheme of work
- To oversee the PE equipment and keep the PE cupboards tidy
- To work with other adults, including teachers, lunchtime supervisors and other support staff in the supervision of children.
- To support the school in promoting sport and physical exercise and increasing our involvement in sports in the local community
- To be punctual and professional
- A relevant Sports/Coaching Qualification at NVQ Level 2 (or equivalent) is desirable
- Experience of working effectively in an education/childcare setting with young people
- Experience of providing coaching for sporting events
- A good level of Literacy and Numeracy
- The ability to work with and engage children through sport
- Effective partnership working skills to liaise with outside agencies, such as sports leads for local competitions
- Skills of empathy, listening, communication and responding with appropriate language to build a positive rapport with children from a range of ages, abilities and backgrounds
- Have an understanding of how sport and physical exercise can improve behaviour and attainment
- Have a good understanding of safeguarding in Schools.
