The Sports Industry is in Danger! Here's why-

We are in a sprint to return to the sports we love. Players want to play, coaches wish to coach, and teams want to see fans stand in the stands sooner or later. But what if the return to sports wind up being more of a marathon than a sprint?

For months, people have been racing to develop a COVID-19 cure. But let's be honest, it takes almost five years to develop one vaccine. With the world still far away from the cure, here are some major impacts that can happen in the future of sports.

1) Finances - Sports is the 11th largest industry in the world. The games we play are serious business. And that business can be in serious trouble. With unsold IPL Tickets, merchandise and ad space going unsold, the sports industry is facing falling. The only question is, how far it will far? And no one has laid out a plan to make future seasons profitable.

2) Health - Many athletes who compete at the highest levels are fairly young and in great shape. But they are not invincible. Many players and athletes are being diagnosed with COVID - 19. There's still a lot that scientists don't know about the lingering health effects of Covid-19. And because of the same reasons, many athletes have opted out of major leagues.

3) Tradition and Normalcy - Fans are emotional and distraught over the cancellation of their favourite sports. And that's understandable. The loss of tradition is a serious thing. Along with that, the livelihood of people that depends on tourist revenue and fan foot traffic will suffer deeply.

4) Youth - How do we keep our kids active and exercising? How do we replicate or replace the skills that kids learn through sports and physical education: commitment, focus, teamwork, etc.? And in the absence of a normal fitness regimen, what do we do about the sedentary threat? Pointing to studies that show kids maintain a stable weight during the school year, but gain weight during the summer, public health experts predict that school closures, combined with the cancellation of organized sports, will exacerbate the nation's childhood obesity epidemic. What's more, eliminating social interactions and playtime while increasing social isolation and screen time may be a recipe for mental health problems, say pediatric researchers.

Just consider that all these problems exist after only five months of partial lockdown. Imagine the situation if the pandemic were to drag on for years. In the face of an epidemic, it might seem silly to think much over games. But losing sports will mean losing people's health and well-being. And that's why I just want sports to come back. What do you think about it?

There is a bigger self realisation due to covid19. People realise that they have to be fit and healthy to survive. As awareness grows on personal health, you will find more people adapt to games and make it part of daily life. So all is not bad, there are good things as well. :)

Good read Bijesh Todi. We're facing all the challenges you've mentioned at BTM FC :-) We play in the BDFA "A" Divison. Our two sources of revenue are 1) Donations from well wishers 2) Jersey Sponsorship. Due to the pandemic, donations are very low......and as far as jersey sponsorship goes....it's been a drag.... Hoping to survive this out without catastrophic damage :)
