Sports & Fitness: A Winning Playbook for a Healthy Partnership with the New Administration and 119th Congress

Following yesterday's Inauguration, the Sports & Fitness Industry Association (SFIA) extends a warm welcome to President Trump, the incoming Administration, and?all?Members of the 119th Congress.

Sports?and fitness have?an unmatched ability to unite people across?all?divides. SFIA will harness this power to bring policymakers together around our shared goal: ensuring all Americans can lead active, healthy lives.? Just like in?sports?and fitness,?and just like the companies SFIA represents, we believe in setting ambitious goals, working relentlessly, and delivering results.

In 2025, SFIA's key policy priorities include:

• Driving higher participation in sports and fitness activities through initiatives that reduce cost barriers and expand access.
• Supporting the development of sports and fitness facilities nationwide.
• Advancing public health through increased physical activity and mental wellness programs.
• Highlighting our industry's substantial economic impact and job creation.
• Championing crucial legislation like the PHIT Act and Youth Sports Facilities Act.

The need for action is clear:?

• In 2023, 64.9 million Americans remained physically inactive, with stark disparities across income levels.

• Households earning under $25,000 showed 38.2% inactivity rates, compared to just 13.1% in households earning over $100,000.

• With 96.4% of families facing pay-to-play youth sports costs, we must work together to ensure economic circumstances never prevent Americans from accessing healthy activities.

We?are encouraged by the strong bipartisan?teamwork already underway, with over 100 Members of Congress supporting the Personal Health Investment Today (PHIT) Act and both chambers introducing the Youth Sports Facilities Act in late 2024.?

As in sports?and fitness, legislative victories require teamwork and persistence. SFIA stands ready to collaborate with the Administration and Congress to expand sports and fitness opportunities for all Americans.
