Sports, entertainment and round-the-clock networking

Dear all,

For those who are aficionados of this newsletter, welcome back and hello!

As you are now officially regulars of the newsletter, feel free to skip to ’Love a home run?’ below, as I should probably add the usual small print for first-timers.

For first-time readers of this newsletter, welcome. You’re wondering, what, why, when? I’ll be brief.

  • What: Succinct summary of what’s new at SuperReturn events
  • Why: For the time-constrained who like to be in the know
  • When: Monthly (plus or minus a week or two; depends somewhat on my travel schedule, other deadlines, whether I tap snooze on the reminders to write this etc)
  • The super small print: This newsletter is entirely skewed to what I find interesting to share at the time I write it. All views are my own. Full and up to date information, with snazzier graphics than I could ever hope to concoct single-handedly, are on SuperReturn’s event websites which I would recommend you sojourn to when you have a cuppa and 10 minutes to spare.

Now on to the ‘real’ stuff...

Love a home run?

Alex Rodriguez (aka A-Rod), one of the biggest baseball players of all time, will be joining us for a fireside chat at SuperReturn North America (New York, Nov 12).

Random-ish fact: My first foray into baseball was seeing the Red Sox play at Fenway Park. I obviously spent most of it learning the rules of the game.

Join the premier league

Thierry Henry, one of the best strikers of all time and voted the greatest player in Premier League history, will share lessons from his life at SuperInvestor (Monaco, Nov 7).

What a treat for sports buffs. And investors.

From our global network

We’re seeing and hearing a lot around private investment in sports, creativity and entertainment, and so, in true SuperReturn form, we’ve been building out our coverage.

The word is out! Our brand new event, SuperReturn Saudi Arabia

We’re incredibly excited to be running our first ever conference in Saudi Arabia in January 2025, and in strategic partnership with Jada Fund of Funds (Riyadh, Jan 27-28).

Tip for you:

Senior executives at GPs and LPs can register to attend free of charge on the website (yes, you read that right, the complimentary tickets include senior-level GPs too). I'd recommend you book your ticket asap: SuperReturn Saudi Arabia.

‘Afternoon Tea’ at a SuperReturn. Wait... what?

Yes, that’s right, well, that’s if you are an LP looking to quench your thirst and catch up with peers after back-to-back conference sessions and meetings with GPs.

Now I think of it, I wouldn’t mind some of that afternoon tea myself.

Upcoming events with LP-only Afternoon Teas:

  • SuperReturn North America (New York, Nov 12)
  • SuperReturn Private Credit US (New York, Nov 12)
  • SuperReturn Japan (Tokyo, Dec 4)

‘Hey, I’m a GP, what about me?’

I hear you. Rest assured, we have a plethora of structured LP/GP networking/meeting opportunities coming up. Here are some to whet your appetite.

(1) GP Fund Presentations

GPs have 10 minutes to pitch their fund to LPs behind closed doors.

Next one is at SuperReturn Global Infrastructure (Oct 8).

Note: limited spots for GPs.

(2) LP/GP Workshops

Next one is at SuperVenture North America (Nov 11).

Session titled: ‘Emerging Manager Workshop’.

(3) LP/GP One-to-One Meetings

We do the hard work for you. Our team arranges meetings with a shortlist of LPs chosen by you.

Available at all our events.

Note: Contact the sponsorship team – details are on all event websites.

Tip for you: The earlier you book, the more likely you are to secure all the meetings you want.

(4) LP/GP Closed Door Conversations

Next one is at SuperReturn Middle East (Oct 15).

Session titled: ‘Sovereign Wealth Funds meet the VCs’.

(5) SuperReturn Allocate LP/GP Meetings

Dedicated 1-hour slots on the event agendas for quickfire meetings between LPs and GPs.

Each hour is focused on a specific investment strategy, such as buyout or secondaries.

Next one is at SuperInvestor (Nov 5-8). No additional cost for registered GPs.

(6) LP/GP Breakfasts

Next one is at SuperReturn Africa (Dec 3).

Session titled: ‘DFIs meet the GPs’.

Tip for you: Pre-registration is required for many of these sessions. The Chatham House Rule usually applies. Check websites for the most up to date information.

And finally,

My jetlag is pretty much over from travelling to Singapore last week for SuperReturn Asia (what an amazing event), and I’ve enjoyed hearing from the team in Amsterdam this week that SuperReturn CFO/COO Europe went really well.

For those of you who will be at SuperReturn Global Infrastructure in London next week (Oct 8-10), it would be great to see you if you have time to find me to say hi.

Until next time, stay safe, stay well.

Yours Informally,

Dorothy

A-Rod is a legend, no doubt. But the only homerun that matters for baseball fans right now is Pete Alonso and his history-making shot for the Mets last night. It’s the first time in MLB Playoffs history that a ninth-inning or later home run turned a deficit into a victory.
