Welcome to the June edition of the monthly news digest of?BEYOND THE MATCH - the SPORTFIVE Magazine. ?

The world is shifting and so is women’s sports. Commercially it’s a new era and we are witnessing different and emerging trends. This month we want to shed a light on the transformations that are occurring across all aspects of women’s sports.

Women’s sport is on an exciting growth trajectory, with records continuing to be broken across the board. As attendance, viewership and fans grow, the sponsorship landscape expands, resulting in new opportunities for brands to enter the market. We have been keeping a close eye on the ever-changing landscape of women’s sport and recognise the immense opportunity.

Before we take a look at the latest industry news and updates from the world of SPORTFIVE, here are some of the sporting highlights from June.??

Football fever in Germany for UEFA EURO 2024?

The 17th edition of the UEFA European Championship got underway in Germany earlier this month with the hosts defeating Scotland 5-1 in Munich. The Group Stage concluded this week with the Round of 16 set to begin on Saturday with Switzerland against reigning champions Italy and Germany taking on Denmark. The Final is set to be played in Berlin on July 14.??

Race hots up for UEFA Women's EURO 2025

The latest round of European Qualifiers took place in June with current holders England defeating France 2-1 in Saint Etienne to ignite their qualifying campaign for next summer's tournament. Elsewhere reigning world champions Spain made it four wins from four to seal their place in Switzerland.???

Copa América kicks off in the U.S.

In the United States, the 48th edition of the Copa América began with holders Argentina defeating Canada 2-0.?Since January 2024, the SPORTFIVE U.S. / Canada digital team have been running the official Copa América social media channels (English, Spanish, Portuguese) in addition to the official website across each language too.??

All eyes on Paris for Summer Olympic Games

With the Olympics a matter of weeks away,?Sha'Carri Richardson secured her place for Paris by winning the women's 100m at the US trials with a world-leading time of 10.71 seconds, qualifying for her first Games. World champion Noah Lyles also qualified for the Paris Games by winning the 100m at the US Olympic trials.??

Alcaraz and Swiatek reign supreme at Roland Garros

Carlos Alcaraz secured his first French Open title after defeating Alexander Zverev in an epic five-set final while world number one Iga Swiatek won her third straight title at Roland Garros, beating Jasmine Paolini in the Final.???

T20 Cricket World Cup takes centre stage

The ICC Men's T20 World Cup landed in the West Indies and the U.S this month with the final four battling it out for a place in Saturday's final in Bridgetown, Barbados. The tournament has produced several stunning results, including the United States team defeating Pakistan and Afghanistan beating New Zealand.

Celtics win record 18th?NBA title

The Boston Celtics won their record 18th NBA Championship after beating the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA Finals. The Celtics won the best-of-seven series 4-1 with Jaylen Brown crowned as the Series MVP. Meanwhile the New York Liberty lead the way in the WNBA Standings after an impressive start of 15-3 from their opening 18 games.??

DeChambeau and Yang secure major wins in June

Bryson DeChambeau won his second U.S. Open title, winning by one shot at Pinehurst No. 2. Similar to the opening two majors of this year, SPORTFIVE had 14 clients in the field at a major championship with Akshay Bhatia finishing the highest (T16). The third major of the LPGA Tour season belonged to Amy Yang, who took the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship in Washington.??

Verstappen extends lead at F1 summit

The 2024 Formula 1 season continued in June with Max Verstappen winning both the Canadian and Spanish Grand Prix’s to extend his lead at the top of the leaderboard. This month concludes with the Austrian Grand Prix before attention turns to the British Grand Prix at the start of July.??

Bagnaia continues MotoGP title charge

Francesco Bagnaia made it consecutive MotoGP Grand Prix wins after winning the Gran Premio D’Italia at the start of the month. Jorge Martín remains at the summit of the standings ahead of the TT Assen in the Netherlands this coming weekend.?
