COVID-19 UPDATES
The Miami Dolphins unveiled a plan Monday to host fans at future games during the 2020 season in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic.
Dolphins CEO and President Tom Garfinkel revealed the plans on ABC’s “Good Morning America.” The mock-ups showed different colored spots around Hard Rock Stadium to designate how far apart fans would need to be away from each other as they enter the stadium.( Fox News.)
UFC returns this month after taking a hiatus during the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.UFC 249 will kick off a series of three events at VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Fla.
All UFC events in Jacksonville are closed to the public and will have only essential personnel in attendance.UFC has several other bouts in the works for this summer, including a potential May 23rd bout card. ( Sports Illustrated.)
NEW TO STREAMING
Blue Wire is a sports podcasting startup bringing together local creators to build a wider audience of fans. They have raised $1.2 million from a variety of investors. Kevin Jones, a seasoned sports reporter, understood the gap between younger audiences and sports discussion and built Blue Wire to bridge the chasm. ( Forbes.)
The NBA 2K League is being broadcast on live television until the end of the regular basketball season, thanks to a deal between the NBA, game publisher Take-Two Interactive and sports network ESPN. The games, which begin at 7:30pm EDT (00:30am UTC) with a 9:30pm Game of the Week on Fridays, are also carried by the League's channels on YouTube and Twitch, with Canada's Sportsnet airing broadcasts for a domestic audience.(Yahoo! HEADLINING THE SPORTS WORLD
The Walt Disney Company owns more than 18.2 million shares of DraftKings stock after the operator’s merger with SBTech and listing on Nasdaq last week. The $DKNG share price closed at $19.46 on Thursday, up 6 cents from Wednesday. That pegs the value of Disney’s investment in DraftKings at more than $364 million. Disney acquired that stake in a massive deal to purchase 21st Century Fox in March 2019. ( LegalSportsReport.)
The Premier Lacrosse League will hold a 16-day quarantined tournament without fans this summer, replacing its previously scheduled second season, which was originally set to begin this month. Details: When: July 25-Aug. 9 Format: 14-game group play, followed by single-elimination tournament. TV: NBC will carry all 20 contests live on NBC, NBCSN or NBC Sports Gold in time slots previously held for the Summer Olympics.
