Over the last few years, retired NBA superstar Kobe Bryant has sat down with CNBC to discuss the sports industry, investing strategies and more. Bryant and his 13-year-old daughter Gianna died Sunday morning in a fatal California helicopter crash that killed seven others. There were no survivors in the crash around 10 a.m. in Calabasas, Los Angeles, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. (CNBC)

All I ever needed to know about Kobe Bryant was this: that throughout our friendship, the most meaningful conversations we had — they were always about family. Brady tweeted a cryptic picture Thursday evening, one that appears (also on Instagram) to depict him in shadow walking alone from a tunnel into (or out of) an empty Gillette Stadium. What does it mean? Tough to say given Brady's tweet was devoid of words. Reporters and fans are sure to parse it for days and maybe weeks as the 20-year veteran, barring an unexpected extension, prepares to enter free agency for the first time.
