Creating the attack with the use of wing backs in a 3-4-3.
- R & L footed players to distribute with the same pace from left to right and from right to left areas of the pitch.
- A technician on the ball picking passes.
- Wing backs that can attack with pace/intensity. 1v1 specialists.
- Benefits/Drawbacks against back four or back fine. All systems have Benefits/Drawbacks.
Coaches/analysts/practitioners, can you coach a team to create the attack by finding the wing backs in a 3-4-3/3-5-2 formation; against a mid-low press/block and against a 3-5-2/3-4-3. Key technical points (but not limited to):
- Detail on the pass/long ball: Pace on the pass - height of the pass - mid air - Spin of the pass inwards/outward, back spin aiming into wing backs feet - control the ball to dribble/pass/attack.
- Timing to maintain shape/stay onside and stretch the back line. Body shape to see the ball/last CB.
- Touch - lift toes not foot to bring the ball down - depending on angle/pace/body positions; ‘kill’ the ball on the deck, rolling forward.
- Team set up for the wing backs to get on the ball - unselfish movement-positioning.
