Sporting Encounters -- Winning no matter what!
Most of you who read this headline, know what I am referring to.
What R. Ashwin did has divided the cricket fraternity with a majority calling his "mankading" an unsportsman like conduct. For a league that has brought about friendships even for the most adverse enemies (Harbajan and Andrew Symonds , Harbhajan and Ricky Ponting etc) , it also brings about its share of sworn enemies (Pollard and Starc, Harbhajan and Sreesanth etc)
These tensions also show the passion and that is something I believe is necessary when you are competing. But, winning at all costs is something I do not agree with at all.
What R. Ashwin did -- was within the rules, but if you want to be respected as a leader, you have to be respected not just by your team but other teams and peers.
Comparing this to a corporate role and in particular a sales role. I have heard and seen a lot of individuals push the envelope when it comes to integrity and ethical standards to win a deal. Does it stop them from getting their commission - NO, Does it stop them from getting their targets - NO. Does it affect relationships and burn bridges -- OFCOURSE!
Here's hoping that we all push to get that win but also be cognizant of the fact that we set an example for the many watching our win!
