Spondylolysis Repair
A new device is now available to treat spondylolysis. This device I hope will provide a more elegant solution to treating spondylolysis resistant to conservative care.??A variety of techniques exist that all have benefits as well as drawbacks.??These are shown below.?
Bucks Screw Technique
Scott Wire
U-Rod
Pedicle Screw-Hook
Some of these techniques are easier than others, but in my experience all four of these techniques lack the type of three-dimensional rigid fixation to maximize results.??Ideally getting the pars fracture to heal through rigid three-dimensional fixation and bone grafting without compression or alteration in the foraminal anatomy is the goal.??Using the least bulky device will also allow the paraspinal muscles to lay over the fracture site and promote healing.??
Below are several representations of this new device.??
Direct visualization of the Pars region is maintained during insertion and grafting. The snap on poly-axial head allows for a lot of variability and visualization during the procedure.??
If interested, this device is available from Altus Spine.?
