Splitting the difference - the 'Cult of Trump and Muslim Brotherhood'?

Definitions:

What is a Cult? The above definitions attempt to explain 'cults', with its followers often hypnotised with their leaders charms, exhuberance and goals, an opinion often different than those outside these cults/teams questioning why these people cannot consider others (normal) opinions. 'Cults' rely on brainwashing and creating cognitive dissociation that relies on confusing a persons reality, as used by NXIVM, Davidians, David Berg, and the Rajneeshees in the US.

This review seeks to analyse evidence and traits of two infamous leaders who impacted society, business and their economies, while considering if they could be classed as 'cult figures' hypothetically? We first look at Hasan al-Banna, a figure I compared against others during 2018 at The Open University (OU).

Hasan al-Banna, was the founder of the Islamic Muslims Brotherhood (MB) in Egypt, an organisation focussed on social assistance to (Sunni) Muslims and was deemed guilty of attempting to overthrow the Egyptian and other Governments in the region, with his militant followers involved in creating Hamas.

Another public and contentious figure we consider is Donald Trump, the founder of the Trump Organisation and outgoing 45th president, currently accused of facilitating violence against people (and those who disagreed with him), damage against property, personal rape and molestation, personal and corporate tax evasion.

We now compare key evidences:

  • Al-Banna's business interests were raised through donations that were used for religion and social enterprises. He was an Egyptian boy whose father was an Imam, encouraging him to study as a religious teacher and leader. Becoming disenchanted with colonization and poverty in his country, he encouraged nationalism under the form of 'patriotism' which then led to militant action. According to study books (OU) MB appreciated Hitler's patriotic methods (who reportedly financed early MB's operations) to fight the UK and Egyptian government officials, and implemented Sharia law, and contributed to Hezbollah and Hamas in Gaza. Al-Banna's initial focus was to help struggling families, improve schooling, raise funds, and distribute it to the poor with women advised to serve their male families. Al-Banna practised inner jihad, although that is contested as his followers in the MB practised outer jihad and travelled to fight in conflicts elsewhere. Eventually after decades and his death they achieved representation in key areas, via political propaganda and religious idealism, forming the Egyptian government until they began jailing and victimising Muslims and Christians who disagreed with their decisions and strict practice of Islam.
  • Donald Trump (Trump) family was connected to the Klu Klux Klan. He grew a successful business empire with his father's inheritance including the airline Trump Shuttle, and Trump Entertainment Resorts Inc. (The Trump Taj Mahal, Trump Plaza, Trump Castle, and Trumps Plaza Hotel), the Trump Hotels & Casino Resorts, Trump University, Trump Ice (water) and Trump Vodka, Trump Mortgage, LLC, GoTrump.com, and not forgetting Trump Steakhouse and Trump Steaks, many of which were filed for bankruptcy and major tax losses losing his partners multi-millions but his charm endured with one famous example of one amazing negotiation tactic where he retained his personal 777 aircraft, although most failures resulted in major debts, and jobs lost. While in power and after, his funding was from donations of constituents that were then transferred to personal accounts and business but before ;eaving, he is accused of inciting sedition (domestic terrorism against the US state and the constitution) in an effort to overthrow government and stay in power, a similar plan as the other divisive figure.

What is of concern is that the former US first lady Hillary Clinton predicted (and said this to his face) at the third 2016 pre-election here (from 1:04-1:06 mins) how Trump would act, which is transcribed here:

"Well Chris, ... that's horrifying. Every time Donald thinks things are not going his direction, he claims it's rigged against him, he thinks after a year-long investigation into me...the FBI was rigged against him, he lost the Iowa caucus and Wisconsin primary he said the Republican primary was rigged against him, Trump university was sued for Fraud and Racketeering, he said the court system and federal judge was rigged against him, he did not get an Emma award three years in a row, ... he says the Emmies were Rigged against him. This is his mindset and this is how Donald thinks, it's funny but also really troubling..."

According to Psychology Today magazines, "Cults, especially personality cults thrive because they feed the illusion of certainty, power, and control—over uncertainty, insecurity, vulnerability...".

Without a doubt, both leaders are divisive and enigmatic and despite their acts will remain famous in their respective countries and revered by their followers - we look to see how they stand up to the scrutiny of time and history and comparisons with other leaders (and even cults)?
