Splash Park Water Recovery

Splash Park Water Recovery

We see splash park project tenders being posted on a regular basis. These are great spots in any community for kids to cool off, have fun, socialize and be active. These splash parks also provide a great opportunity to collect the water and store it for re-use. A typical splash park can use approximately 40,000 L per day or more. If the splash park is open for 150 days per season the potential water savings are 6,000,000 L per season. They can also capture rainwater as it falls on the splash pad which increases potential water savings.

The saved water can be used for non-potable applications as follows:

  • Tied into irrigation systems to irrigate adjacent green spaces.
  • Accessed through a dispensing kiosk for filling mobile equipment.
  • Street Sweepers
  • Asphalt rollers
  • Dust control trucks
  • Tree watering truck
  • Fire-fighting reserve water
  • And more.

There has been a project of this nature done before in Surrey BC as a retrofit and we are sure there must be other others around North America. It is far easier and more cost effective to implement when the splash park is designed.

This should be of interest to any municipality that needs to conserve water. Please get in touch for a discussion.
