A Spiritual Perspective of Your Voice

Our ability to express what is important to us, and our personal truth is essential, in life and in business, especially when events or behaviours are not aligned or are breaching our boundaries.
I have been on a journey to ‘find my voice’, which is now fundamental to all that I do. I teach and coach from personal experience and story. I have had to overcome the fear of judgement and ‘come out fully’ as an esoteric practitioner to accomplish my purpose of helping others live a spirited life. To change the prevailing spiritual narrative and normalise spirituality as a cornerstone of wellbeing, I had to speak clearly about it. I had to find my voice.?
In my coaching sessions and my Spirited Business community, I see the same hesitation as others reach a degree of personal mastery and have the call to service. What will others think of me? Will I be perceived as ‘woo woo’, ‘fluffy’, disconnected from ‘reality’? This fear keeps many playing small and safe, without allowing the full light of their unique perspectives and offerings to reach the many people they can help.?
To change the collective mindset towards living a spirited life, we need to risk being judged through the very paradigm we are seeking to change. This, via my book Spirited, The Modern Crone podcast, recorded meditations, blog posts and media, has become a centrepiece of my mission.?
To find our voice, it’s important to take a wider view of what ‘our voice’ actually is and view it through a spiritual lens.
Here are four realisations I have made about my voice on the journey to find it, that have helped me enormously to express my truth:
It is through our voice, a complex patterning of sonic energy, that we are able to transmit thoughts, ideas, stories and emotions into another’s awareness. Through the subtle cueing of language, inflections, tone and accompanying body language, we are able to directly affect the minds of others and be understood. We have all had heightened and sometimes life-changing experiences through the top note of an aria, the crowd singing along at a music concert, hearing the wail of a child who is lost in conflict, or hearing the heart-felt words of ‘thank you’, ‘I’m sorry’, ‘I love you’.
Inherent in our voice is our identity, our current state, our philosophy, our story, our lineage and our ability to discharge energy from our system through an audible sigh or sometimes, a scream.
2. The voice as a mechanism for alignment
In the yogic frame, our voice is governed by the fifth chakra, Vishuddhi. Vishuddhi is Sanskrit, which translates to ‘Purity’. This isn’t about purity in a puritanical sense, but rather a purity of alignment with your truth. Vishuddhi governs our entire expressive pallet, calling for us to completely align with what we stand for, our values, and who we truly are – through our words, thoughts, and deeds. The correspondent colour for the throat chakra is light blue and traditionally, in Yoga Nidra practice, the accompanying visualisation to invoke when sending prana to this centre is a vast clear blue sky.
3. The voice as an agent for energetic change and manifestation
In manifestation processes, using the voice to decree intention and build and direct energy is important. Voicing our intended outcome or goal, is one of the key steps of bringing it into form and experience. A decree translates the desire into sonic energy, fueled by command. It becomes a new pattern that previously didn’t exist. When you make a decree and share your goal and have it witnessed, especially within a trusted community, you inject a huge amount of energy into the process. It’s like plugging the goal into this dimension through sound and awareness. The dynamics of this are key elements in our Mind & Magic of Manifesting journey in the Spirited Living community.

4. The voice as a co-creative instrument with the divine
Perhaps one of the most beautiful perspectives on the voice comes from Kabbalah. According to Kabbalah (and all other esoteric traditions), we create as we speak. The saying A’bra ke’Da’ra translates to: Abra: I will create, Kadabrah: as I speak. We speak with our thoughts, with our mind, in Hebrew ‘Moach’ which has a numerical value of 48 because our thoughts send out energetic frequencies into the world. We speak through the words written on the tablets of our hearts, Leiv – which has a numerical value of 32 – as our emotions also have an energetic frequency that is sent out into the world. These emanations can now be scientifically measured.
Kabbalist masters agree that the biggest distance in the universe is between head and heart – the Moach 48 and the Leiv 32. But when we connect them (through ritual and spiritual contemplation) – Moach 48 and Leiv 32, we get the numeral value of 80, which literally translates to 'mouth' – which is in between the two. When we visualise, see, feel the thought and make that connection by inspiring emotion, from there, when we speak, we co-create with the Universe. Divine! If you are drawn to Kabbalist wisdom, I highly recommend following @rebadamyitzchak
I hope these perspectives widen your contemplation of your amazing voice!
In my next article I will share five ways to find your voice as a spiritual/sacred aspect of self.

Great article. I remember when I started teaching yoga, I felt for the first time that I had a voice and something valuable to say and it would appear people liked to listen, but it isn't about me and my opinion it's almost beyond me ..if that makes sense?! I've also found that when i'm in 'creating' phase and I speak to someone about it, its often by voicing the concepts that the intent becomes clear and formulated. :)

1 个月This is one of the biggest transformations I see for spiritual practitioners and healers I connect with - those who are willing to become visible and share their voice have the biggest impact at scale. This is a brilliant framing of our actual voice as a vessel for healing.
