Spiritual Fitness Brah.

Hey Bro,

Are you going to the gym?

Pumping weights, eating steaks, and feeling great?

If so I am proud of you, if not start getting after it and watch your physiology transform.

That said, today we’re not talking about the gym, working out, diet, or anything like that. We’re going to dive into the topic of spiritual fitness.

This is one of the most overlooked subjects in life today. Even if you consider yourself spiritual or driven by faith, many of us still fall short here. It is no question that we are all sinners, so what do we do about it?

How am I supposed to be spiritually fit if I find myself falling short in my faith multiple times a day? How can I continue to carry the weight of this burden when every time I choose to be conscious of my sins I feel shame rest upon my soul?

This is the place where spiritual fitness begins.

Recognize that A.) You will make spiritual errors and you should NOT be shocked when you do, and B.) When you make these errors you must establish yourself in the humility born in reality.

BUT SKYLAR, what does this mean?

For starters you are a human bro, why are you shocked that you are falling short? That is a part of the human condition. It doesn’t mean you get a free pass to sin, it simply is the truth of being alive. Even great pastors, church fathers, and spiritual leaders of history suffered with the same thoughts and habitual sin that you did.

Secondly, when you fall short you cannot simply fall into self-torture. “I can't believe I did that”, “I can’t believe I am like this”, “I wish that I was different.” These thoughts are NOT true, nor should they be given any airway. In addition to your natural sinful condition, your mind has been programmed by the modern world to be prideful, arrogant, and full of limiting beliefs. If there ever was a time in history in which the human being was cast under a spell of confusion and delusion it is now.

Humble thyself, realize you are not that great therefore you can’t expect yourself to be blameless. Not one of us is blameless, we all fail and fall short.

Once you recognize that you cannot compare yourself to perfection and that falling short is inevitable what else is left to criticize within yourself? Nothing.

Why continue to torture your already tormented spirit with expectations that you shouldn’t have?

Why would you press on the brakes when trying to go the speed limit on a highway?

You wouldn’t. So why do we find ourselves doing it on our journey of spiritual growth?

Now that we have laid that out, allow me to be crystal clear.

In NO WAY am I advocating that you stop developing personally, nor give up on working towards changing your mental programming.

What I am saying is that you SHOULD give up on being surprised that you will think and act in certain ways.

In addition, you SHOULD relinquish the idea that torturing yourself after discovering said sin is somehow a benefit.

God have mercy on us all who fall short and feel like Jesus’s blood was not enough to cover our transgressions.

What a powerful recognition this is.

To realize that even as a man of faith we can fall into believing that not even god himself is good enough to cover us, and he made us lol.

It’s all but comical in some sort of strange way. Especially for me right now as the entire reason I wrote this today was for myself in a way. After a morning of battling my own internal BS, I found myself desperately pleading with god in the desert to relinquish me of said torture. After a few minutes of prayer and reminders that I am only a mere mortal, how is it rational to expect myself of such a vast spiritual transformation in such little time? Not that god doesn’t perform miracles but that I MYSELF think I alone could work my way into it.

When arriving home after sitting down at my desk I was led to Ft. Josiah Trenham’s YouTube channel and listened to him discuss to his audience exactly what I just went through 1 hour beforehand.

Now if that is not a miracle or a sign from GOD I don’t know what is.

As I write this I can’t help but tear up, I have goosebumps.

I pleaded with him to show me through and he did.

He never fails.

So, brother, I need you to be spiritually fit. Your family needs you to lean into the word and hold strong to the truth.

Our world desperately needs men who are willing to go to this place and fight the good fight WITH God. Without him, you are weak, with him & TOGETHER you are strong.

Peace be with you.
