Spiritual Attack: Beyond the Loss of Jobs, Properties, Marriages, Children, or Health (the enemy's Real Intention explained)

Since the beginning, satan remains the Chief Con Artist — for the Serpent was more Subtle than all others…

Con artists study each victim, identify their vulnerability, sell lies to deceive, and finally dispossess them of their valuables.

The most valuable thing that Adam and Eve possessed was not the splendour of the Garden and all it contained. The most valuable thing they had was their Relationship with God.

God would come down at the cool of the day to fellowship with them. God’s presence was the sustainer of the splendour of the Garden. To be driven out of the garden was to be driven out of God’s presence.

The first introduction of satan, in the beginning, was in Eden. satan was having a morning chat with Eve.

When we were much younger, our Sunday school teachers said “Adam must have gone to work while the Serpent deceived Eve, and that Eve reserved Adam’s portion of the fruit till he returns from work”. Chuckles

Well, that is not what the Bible recorded. Adam was right there with her, and I often wonder why he did nothing to stop the conversation (another talk for another post).

Anyway, “Has God said…?” was the first statement the serpent uttered.

That was the very first declaration of War against Mankind — the beginning of Man’s Spiritual Battles.

The enemy did not come attacking with swords and spears — the enemy came with words.

Goliath was shocked to see David come against him with sticks and stones — those were not the typical weaponry for that type of Warfare. Similarly, satan also uses Words, this weapon doesn't seem appropriate too, but it is potent.

The enemy’s words are usually very subtle; they sometimes manifest as thoughts. These words question what God has said — i.e., God’s own words; God’s own testimony. That is why he is called the Accuser.

The enemy sows seeds of doubt that ultimately become the basis for disobedience towards God.

If Sarah said, “God has made me laugh and all that hear will laugh with me” — satan is saying, “I rebelled against God and all of Mankind must Rebel with me”.

The enemy still goes about today saying those words, “Has God said…?”, albeit in different forms depending on the occasion and vulnerability of the victim.

In His temptation, Jesus’s intelligent responses to satan demonstrated His Fidelity to the Father — I’ll live by the Words from God’s mouth; I’ll Worship only God; I won’t tempt the Lord my God.

In the case of Job, satan was actually saying, “Did you SAY Job is a Righteous man? let’s wait and see”.

satan’s interest in the life of Job was beyond his Wealth, Social Status and Family life

Look at Job’s bio as described in Job 1:1-3

  • Job’s Righteousness: There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and eschewed evil.?
  • Job’s Family Life: And there were born unto him seven sons and three daughters.?
  • Job’s Wealth and Socio-economic Status: His substance also was 7000 sheep, 3000 camels, 500 yokes of oxen, 500 she-asses, and a very great household (staffs, servants and his workforce); so that this man was the greatest of all the men of the east — Job could have been listed on the Forbe’s billionaires list.

Indeed, Job was prosperous by every standard — the greatest in the East (i.e., the centre of civilization at that time).

However, God did not mention Job’s earthly possessions, societal status and family life in His conversation with satan.

Rather you heard God emphasizing Job’s Righteousness — i.e. Job’s perfectness and uprightness, Job’s fear of God, and Job’s avoidance of evil. Job’s Righteousness was a demonstration of how Job reflected divine expectations on the earth.
