In ancient times in a remote village, there lived a couple who lived in a small hut. Just like common villagers, they do not have a permanent job. Often the husband leaves deep into the forest to cut down trees as firewood, while his wife takes care of the house and raise some chickens. Once traveling in forest, usually the farmer will return home days or weeks after. This has become a routine activity for the family.
One day while carrying out his duties, as usual he took a break for lunch. Usually he sits under a shady tree. But that day the weather was very hot, so he chose to find a place that was quite shady. At that time, he found a cave that was quite clean and not too deep, so the sunlight and fresh air sufficiently available. Then he entered, looking for the most ideal place to sit and enjoy his lunch. Finally, in a corner he found the right place. Before sitting down, he cleaned the place first. While cleaning, he found an ancient gold coin. Had thought of ignoring it, finally he decided to bring it and return home faster.
On the way home, he met an antique merchant. They get acquainted with each other and innocently, the farmer tells the merchant about the thing he just discovered. After seeing the gold coin, the merchant's cunning arose. He thought, "At least this coin is worth 100 pounds of gold." Then he persuaded the farmer to sell the gold coin for 100 pounds of silver to him. With pleasure and without thinking twice, the farmer decided to sells it. They finally separated to take different route.
Within a few hours, the farmer met the donkey seller. Aiming to save energy, he tried to buy one of the donkeys. The prices of donkeys that are sold vary greatly depending on the quality. But the cheapest is 100 pounds of silver. When he ventured to bid on the cheapest (old) donkey, finally the donkey seller gave it for 50 pounds of silver.
After staying overnight, the next morning he continued his journey. This time, in a village he met a very old street magician. At the time of meeting, the magician was seriously ill and did not have property even enough money to stay at the inn. Compassionately the farmer brought the old magician to reach the closest inn by using his donkey. A very difficult and heavy track, coupled with the excessive burden that must be borne makes the old donkey suffocate as soon as they reach the nearest inn.
Feeling that human life is far more important, the farmer does not drag on sadness, but immediately rents a proper room and seeks the physician to look after the magician. Humans can try, but it's unfortunate for the magician. That night he had a feeling that he would die soon. Before he died, he inherited the farmer his magic tools including an automatic iron box that could be rotated to play music. Finally, the magician died. Assisted by the innkeeper and some of the residents around him, the farmer buried the magician's body. At that time, he had to spend as much as 30 pounds of silver for the total cost of staying and funeral. He saw the remaining money in the bag was only 20 pounds of silver. The farmer did not have any interest or passion on performing any magic show like the magician did in the past, so considering the load of magic tools he had to carry, he decided to give it to the villagers and only bring the iron music box with him.
Throughout the journey the farmer continues to enjoy the beautiful melody from the iron box. He knew for certain that his wife would be very happy to receive it as gift.
Moments later he passed a long line of king guards. To avoid the crowds, the farmer tried to slightly detour his journey. But the melodious sound produced from the iron box was clearly heard by the empress of the king who at that time accompanying the king to hunt deep inside the forest. Empress of the king then called his bodyguard to search for the source of the sound. When he saw a poor farmer carrying a metal box, the empress expressed his intention to buy the box for whatever price the farmer asked. Seeing the empress's elegance and beauty, the innocent farmer is willing to give the box for free. He also refused payment from the empress. Considering the farmer's sincerity, the empress ordered his guards to give the best royal horses. "This horse is one of the best horses I have". "He is very trained and very loyal." "Use it so you can quickly return home".
Using the emperor's horse, he had managed to travel very quickly. Two villages have been passed in just a matter of hours. In the afternoon he entered the big city. The distance to the village where they lived is just only about half more day.
That afternoon he decided to rest overnight in a restaurant and inn, before continuing his journey home and to meet his wife the next day. In a large city many people passed by. Everyone is paying attention to a very unusual scene. A poor farmer rides a noble class horse. There is never even a horse as good and as good as the farmer uses. It was also seen by the mayor who happened to be passing by. Through his orders, he bid the horse for 100 then 1,000 pounds of gold and the offer continued to be raised so as to reach 10,000 pounds of gold along with the farmers' rejection. No wonder, the horse is a royal horse and the real price is more than 100,000 pounds of gold. Disappointed with the refusal of the farmer, the mayor ordered his gang to steal the horse.
The next day, after paying 10 pounds of silver for the cost of lodging, the farmer got his horse gone. Had been disappointed, but he entertained himself and continued to travel on foot. That afternoon he arrived back at home and met his wife. The wife welcomed her husband with joy and asked, "My husband, where is the firewood from your search for this week?" "Usually you go home longer, but why do you go home sooner?". Quietly and lightly the farmer replied, "My dear wife, I decided to go home and meet you sooner because I found 10 pounds of silver money". "This money is enough to finance our lives for at least the next 4-5 months."
A couple and then pray together and enjoy their days as usual ……
Moral of the Story:
? We come to this world at first without carrying anything. At the time of passing to the creator, there is no property or money that we can carry.
? There are many types of person wherever we are. Good or bad, we will and must always be ready and alert to deal with it.
? Fortune and misfortune, or luck and loss always come and go. Nothing is eternal.
? Human desire is something that is very abstract and relative. There are sometimes or even many times when very rich or noble person still striving for or looking for something that we think very simple and not valuable enough.
? Money is useful to support our life, but abundant assets and properties never make people satisfied and won't even make them better.
? Happiness arises from sincerity, our heart and mind. Regretting what has been lost, does not improve the situation or make something positive.
