Ah, the enigma that is the Indian job market. Why is it that XYZ Corp (you know, that company that definitely values transparency) proudly flaunts salary brackets for marketing roles in the US, Europe and Australia but when it comes to India—poof—the salary info vanishes like it’s a state secret? It’s almost as if revealing a pay range here might cause society to implode. Why the cloak and dagger, folks?
Let’s cut the suspense. Is this some corporate-sponsored version of a game show where the big reveal comes after you’ve jumped through 12 hoops of interviews? “Come on down! Spin the wheel of paychecks!” Spoiler alert: This isn’t fun, and nobody's laughing. Why can’t India join the global ranks where you’re paid for the value you bring to the role and not based on some mysterious past salary?
Now, the best part (or worst, depending on how you look at it): While HR pretends the salary is a top-secret dossier, the reality is most employees already know what their colleagues are making, thanks to some handy-dandy loopholes. So, who exactly is this top-secret info being kept from? The whole thing feels like one of those magic shows where the rabbit's been in the hat all along. Cue the awkward applause.
And, let’s not even get started on the work culture gap. In the US, Europe, and Australia, employees are—brace yourselves—working from home, and productivity hasn’t collapsed! Some even pick up their kids from school without a manager calling in a wellness check. But here? Oh no. We're still chained to the idea that unless you're physically in the office, you're not really working. Because, obviously, commuting for two hours in traffic and sitting in a cubicle under the watchful eye of middle management equals efficiency, right?
And what’s with the obsession with looking busy? Some still believe that being visibly stressed and overworked is the badge of a “hard worker.” Call me crazy, but I’d prefer to be actually productive and not just starring in the corporate remake of "The Walking Stressed." Micro-management? No, thanks. I'll pass.

Maybe, just maybe, we’d stop offering festival sweets and fancy office amenities as compensation and start providing real growth opportunities. Here’s to hoping!
