Spend 24 hours with me

In the style of one of my favorite subreddits (r/MoneyDiariesActive), I decided to document 24 hours (Sunday evening-Monday) to share what I do in a day. The reason is transparency and to kick off a conversation of what other learning leaders do on a day to day basis :)

Feb 4:

8:50 PM: After watching my favorite esports team, TSM, play horribly, I log onto my PC and do my #hotidjobs list to post via my scheduler at 8:00am 2/5.

Sadly TSM did not play like champions in the year 4 kickoff but at least they won the last Apex Legends Global Series World Championship. From L-R: ImperialHal, Raven (Coach), Reps, and Verhulst.

9:00 PM: Sent an email to ATD to ask status on facilitating a certificate program for an enterprise client this month. I’m waiting to take time off work until it’s confirmed.

9:10 PM: Look at my work calendar for tomorrow and I have 7 meetings + 2 onboarding classes to check on & a new onboarding class starting tomorrow. Some of my meetings include team meetings, product sprint updates, and a Young Professional Committee I co-lead. Busy busy. Also pre-scheduled my workout for 7:00pm tomorrow with my favorite Orangetheory Coach LC <3.

9:15 PM: Re-set up work computer on dock, re-plug mouse & headset. I traveled to two of our offices Thursday and Friday.

Feb 5:

6:30 AM: Wake up

6:45 AM: Log onto the work computer and do some admin tasks including pay administration tasks, starting an expense report, and preparing for annual incentive work for 2023.?

7:30 AM: Go downstairs and make coffee and tell three cats they are the best cats on the planet.

My cat Saffron striking a pose for the camera.

7:35 AM: Catch up on Friday emails as I was spending time with the Toledo team, look back at last week’s onboarding class notes to prepare for visit to current onboarding classes.

8:00 AM: Spend time in both current onboarding classes, check on facilitator and producer, connect with new hires.

8:30 AM: Meeting #1: Product Sprint Update about a new system replacing a legacy system

9:00 AM: Meeting #2: Team workgroup meeting about a particular product the organization offers.

9:30 AM Welcome to MMO: Leave Meeting #2 early to welcome the new hire class and discuss training expectations to set them up for success. Also received a nice compliment from a business partner. Got a request from one of the onboarding class facilitators to come to address an urgent matter. Left and took care of it then came back to the welcome but was late to meeting #3.

10:15 AM: Meeting #3: Team meeting and got held over 15 minutes which made me late to?

11:15 AM: Meeting #4: Refining a needs assessment, great convo about our training population that gave some food for thought.

12:00 PM: Lunch (chicken salad croissant and an apple) and came back to desk at 12:30 PM to prep for…

1:00 PM: Meeting #5: Led by me full learning team to share project updates so far and 2024 team functional strategy.

One of the topics in the 1:00pm meeting is a new acquisition by the company and what it means for us in training.

2:00 PM: Go back and check on the onboarding classes, not sad my Meeting #6 got canceled and chatted with the co-lead about the young professional committee meeting. Also respond to 25+ emails that have accumulated throughout the day and instant messages.

3:00 PM: 15 minute break folding last night's laundry and putting it away. Also pick out workout clothes for later today. Go back to the expense report and finalize it to send for approval.

4:00 PM: Meeting #6 first time co-leading this committee. Enjoyed meeting folks across the company I hadn’t met yet.

4:45 PM: Meeting ended early so back to responding to emails and IMs. Start to work through an annual merit conversation with my boss on Wednesday.??

5:00 PM: Get lost in building out my team dashboard in Microsoft Loop. I watched a few Youtube videos about integrations and sad I can’t do them on my work computer.?

6:00 PM: Log off for the day and prepare a sandwich for dinner. Starting to get a headache.

6:35 PM: Have a change of heart and late cancel Orangetheory. I text my coach to let her know. I'm sorry Jen Lennox-Chiudioni <3 <3

7:00 PM: Ride my exercise bike since I feel guilty about late canceling Orangetheory.

8:15 PM: Take a shower and call my Dad. Excited he is coming to visit Saturday to celebrate my partner's 37th birthday!

9:00 PM: Do my #hotidjob list, schedule it through my social media scheduler, and go to bed.

There you have it. Amidst the whirl of meetings, emails, and onboarding classes, there's a strange beauty in the madness. It's a life filled with purpose, passion, and perhaps too much reliance on a digital calendar.

Love it! My vote is for everyone to write a similar article to provide the reality of what a daily life looks like throughout all professions and demographics. I think too many of us create inaccurate stories of what others' days look like, and either underappreciate OR glorify others.

This is awesome, we need more of this type of article on a realistic day in learning world.

I'm impressed coffee isn't earlier on your list. Also glad to see that you still took some "ME" time amidst the insanity, Eben though you canceled your workout.
