There are multiple stories of who and when was the Reuben Sandwich created. One of the first accounts it was created by the son of a hotel owner Charles Schimmel who owned the Blackstone Hotel in Nebraska.

Charles held a weekly poker game with a group of friends who named themselves "the committee". These weekly games took place between 1920 to1935. One member of the committee was a gentleman by the name of Reuben Kulakofsky, a Jewish Lithuanian-born grocer, who regularly ask Charles if the kitchen could make him a corned beef sandwich and add sauerkraut. Charles son, who worked in the kitchen served Reuben his corned beef sandwich with sauerkraut and came up with the idea to add Swiss Cheese and thousand island dressing and put the whole thing on rye Bread.

Charles decided to put this sandwich on his lunch menu and started to see the reputation spread throughout the city.

One of his former hotel employees had the idea to enter the sandwich into a national sandwich competition.

This was also mentioned in a movie called the Quiz show, where Richard N. Goodwin (known as Dick) orders and eats one in a restaurant with Charles van Doren, and they discuss the sandwich's origins.

Another account holds that Reuben's creator was Arnold Reuben, the German-Jewish owner of Reuben's Delicatessen (1908–2001) in New York City. According to an interview with Craig Claiborne, Arnold Reuben created the "Reuben Special" around 1914. Created for Marjorie Rambeau, the famous Broadway actress of the time visited Reuben's Delicatessen one night when the cupboards were particularly bare, he put together the first known Corned beef Sauerkraut and Swiss cheese Sandwich, word spread around the city, and the Reuben Sandwich was born.

There are other versions that give credit to Alfred Scheuing, a chef at Reuben's Delicatessen and say he created the sandwich for Reuben's son, Arnold Jr., in the 1930s.

Whoever was the creator of the Reuben Sandwich, be it Alfred Scheuing or Charles Schimmel's son, and many others who claim fame for creating this fine masterpiece, one thing we can all agree on

LONDON BEIGEL AND SALT BEEF BAR ?????? ???????? ?????????? ???? ?????????????????? ???????? ???????????? ????????????????, ?????? ????????????, ???? ?????? ????????.

Each Reuben sandwich takes up to twenty minutes to prepare from slightly toasting our homemade Rye bread, then covering the bread with our homemade mustard and Russian Dressing.

We then place 150g of our Premium Australian Salt Beef, which comes fresh out of the pot where our Salt Beef has been cooking for up to three hours to make it melt in your mouth tender.

This is carefully placed on top of the Rye bread laying both the flat and the point on top of each other while steaming hot.

We then cover the Salt Beef with our homemade mustard and Russian Dressing Sauerkraut and place two slices of Swiss cheese on top of the Salt Beef. To finish off, we place the other slice of Rye bread on top of the Salt Beef and Swiss Cheese and then put it into the pan to finish toasting and melt the Swiss Cheese into the Salt Beef, and then cut it in half.

The Reuben Sandwich is not just an iconic sandwich; it is peace of handcrafted art to which we hope London Beigel and Salt Beef Bar have done justice by creating our version of the Reuben.
