Incorrect temperature and salinity measurements can impact the accuracy of acoustic Doppler measurements and the following is recommended,
- Allow acoustic Doppler instrument to equilibrate to the water temperature before commencing with stream flow gauging.
- Independent temperature measurement should be performed before commencing stream flow gauging’s to verify acoustic Doppler temperature measurement.
- Salinity should be verified at least once at a flow monitoring site to determine salinity range. If the salinity is higher than 5, then independent salinity measurement should be performed during each stream flow gauging.
- If the flow monitoring site is in a tidal affected area, it is recommended that a CTD instrument such as CastAway is used to perform temperature and conductivity profile measurements within the water column.
- If the salinity at the flow measurement location exceeds thePSS-78 range, salinity cannot be used for calculation of speed of sound. Sound Velocimeter must be used to measure the actual speed of sound in the water directly at the measurement location.

1 年great info and thanks for sharing this. Temperature is involving to waves transmission, right?and so the TDS factor?
