Speed Cube Record at CCEP Sidcup
In the 1980’s, Erno Rubik's 3-D Cube reached its height of mainstream popularity and over the last 40+ years it is widely considered the world's best-selling toy. Many ‘speedcubers’ continue to practice it and compete for the fastest times in various categories, creating competition and setting new records. In CCEP Sidcup, the phrase ‘speedcubers’ takes on a rather different connotation and has teams competing for records on multiple package formats – both 18 & 24pack. With so many different permeations to deliver the award winning packs, teams are forever creating new standards on developing solutions to increase the speed of transfer across Line 7.
In recent times, Sean Donohue’s Blue Shift has the bit between their teeth and fuelled with the competitive edge, have been knocking at the door for quite some time and pushing the boundaries of possibilities. Not to be outdone is Elliot Martin’s Red Shift, which has many seasoned veterans at the helm, having been brought up on the line they seem to have the inside knowledge and ability to make it sing. When fused together the scene was set for a record 24hr on cube pack, a record 109,560 cases of 24 pack was delivered surpassing the previous record set and raising the bar on what is possible.
Much had been discussed of the imminent retirement of Blue Shift Stalwart Steve Coast, he had proclaimed he wanted no fuss, but he would mark his passing with something special. Special it was, with military precision he paraded his troops from Short Interval Control through to Planned Downtimes while his partner in crime, Andy Moore watched on from afar realising he would soon be saying goodbye to his colleague. With the record broken, New Kid on the Block, Essex heart-throb Donohue was beaming as he skipped home. COVID-19 may have challenged the ‘high 5’ approach therefore it was elbow to elbow with everyone he passed and his youthful exuberance was ‘infectious’ in galvanising the team around him.
Sidcup Production Manager, Max James commented: “A new delivery record coupled with our renewed focus on PDT execution wraps up a great few weeks for us. This outstanding achievement is testimony to the dedication of all our teams, and makes Sidcup fitter, stronger and ready for the opportunities ahead.”
This performance has steadily built on delivery with 15 consecutive months of production increase. The word from Green and Yellow shift is that they are glad that Blue and Red have reached their milestones and welcomed their introduction to join them in the premier league!
