SPEE3D, a world leading 3D metal manufacturer, has been announced as the Territory’s exporter of the year.
Over the last 12 months, SPEE3D has significantly broadened its footprint in the natural resource sector and international defence space, including as part of the Australian government’s defence industry support package to Ukraine.
SPEE3D is supported through a $2.75 million Local Jobs Fund concessional loan they received in 2020 to develop their Research and Development Headquarters in Darwin. Read more...
Updates from the Territory
Avenira Limited is making significant progress in the Northern Territory, with the company securing approval for its Mining Management Plan (MMP). The approval of their MMP clears the way for mining activities to start at the Wonarah Phosphate Project. Avenira Limited has also signed a licence and technology transfer agreement with Taiwan’s ALEEES to progress a lithium ferro phosphate (LFP) battery cathode manufacturing facility at the Middle Arm Sustainable Development Precinct.?Read more…??
Samsung C&T Engineering?and Construction looks to the Territory for mega-scale Green Energy project?with the signing of an?MOU this week with the Northern Territory Government. The scope of the MOU includes the investigation and feasibility of large-scale renewable energy infrastructure, including manufacturing the Territory. The clean energy produced will help manufacturing companies, including Samsung affiliates and other global companies, transition to 100% renewable energy. Read more...
Six months on from the first Darwin Dialogue, Australian Strategic Policy Institute has released a Special Report, "Developing Australia's critical minerals and rare earths: implementing the outcomes from the 2023 Darwin Dialogue”. The report includes 24 recommendations to support the development of viable, competitive alternative markets that offer products through supply chains secure from domestic policy disruptions and economic coercion.??Read report…
Territory Investment Commissioner Kelly Ralston travelled to India with a delegation led by Minister Nicole Manison, reflecting the growing importance of trade and investment opportunities with India.
The delegation travelled to Mumbai, Chennai and Kerala, and included meetings with Government Officials, aviation, energy and manufacturing companies, such as Tata Group, Kerala Minerals and Metals, and the Indo-Australia Chamber of Commerce.
Critical minerals company Tivan Limited, has entered into an agreement with Larrakia Energy to supply up to 30 MW of renewable energy from 2026. The agreement is intended to support Tivan’s planned Vanadium Electrolyte Facility in Middle Arm, the largest of its kind in Australia
Larrakia Energy is a joint venture of first nations led Larrakia Development Corporation and Korea’s largest electric utility KOMIPO. ?
Tivan has also partnered with CSIRO to develop ground breaking vanadium processing technology (TIVAN+), in a major step towards advancing energy transition through sovereign capabilities. The partnership will see the development and commercialisation of the cutting-edge, CSIRO-patented technology increasing used in the production of renewable energy storage systems.?Read here…

The independent report highlights the positive economic impact of upcoming defence infrastructure projects and the Northern Territory’s construction industry readiness.
This report forecasts $6.2 billion in defence investment from 2023 to 2027. Currently, Defence contributes 11% to the Territory's Gross State Product. With strong local involvement, this could boost the Territory's GSP by 5% in 2025-26. See report...
Major Projects Commissioner Jason Schoolmeester and Chairman Gas Taskforce Alister Trier led a delegation to the 60th Annual Australia – Japan Joint Business Conference in Melbourne in early October. The event attracted more than 600 representatives, including ministers, ambassadors and the leaders of major corporations. Discussions held centred on the Territory’s investment opportunities and deepening ties on energy security, critical minerals and cooperation on renewable energy such as hydrogen and ammonia.
NEXTDC embarks on an $80 million project, constructing the first of three data centres. D1, set for completion in mid-2024, will boost the digital economy, and provide?critical onshore data storage services for Australian and international customers. With leases already secured, NEXTDC plans to expand with D2 and D3 as more sub-sea and terrestrial cables come online.?
Infrastructure Update
Stage one of the Carpentaria Highway project is now complete.?Northern Territory Government, in partnership with the Australian Government, is investing $150 million in upgrades to the Carpentaria Highway. The Carpentaria Highway is a key access road to the Beetaloo Sub-basin and Borroloola, it’s also a critical service route for the pastoral, tourism, agricultural and mining sectors. Read more...
The Australian Government's recent independent review of the Infrastructure Investment Program (IIP), saw a renewed commitment to all Northern Territory projects in the pipeline and also included an additional $200 million for upgrading and sealing the Tanami Road in Central Australia. Read more...
