A special shout out to teachers this month!

Did you know there are only 2 more Fridays in June before school is out for summer? I do. My kids remind me every day exactly how many days till the summer holiday...today it is officially 12 days for them.

And so this month's newsletter is dedicated to our teachers...both our kid's teachers and the teachers who helped you become the leaders and business owners that you are.

Last weekend, I had the pleasure of attending my 30th High School Reunion, which I’d been helping to organize for the last 4 months. After I quickly agreed to help organize, I caught myself thinking: “Why do I always jump in so quickly? Why am I taking on this extra work?!”

Being at the event answered those questions – and reminded me what I already knew: Gathering people is a core value for me. There’s nothing I enjoy more than watching a room full of people completely engaged and animated! But also I'm truly grateful for the community that raised me and proud of the people we all became. Saturday night did not disappoint. I believe 30 years is the magical HS reunion number, whereby everyone has settled into who they are and cares about how everyone else is doing...at least that’s how I felt. To add to the special feeling was the experience of connecting with one of my favourite teachers, shown in these photos: coach Joe Bell. He taught me English, and he headed up our ski racing team (not to mention football as well...but I didn't play football). What was also remarkable about Saturday night was how many in my grad class turned out to be teachers! I think that speaks to how fortunate we were to have a learning environment with awesome teachers like Mr. Bell. I always thought I wanted to be a teacher...I just knew I couldn’t do it in a classroom. There’s no greater purpose than to support others to grow, to become the best version of themselves.And I can definitely say: that my purpose, the one I am living with Better Your Best, exists today with strong roots from Handsworth Secondary!

And this is also why LEADING SELF is so important to me! This course teaches participants to rise to the moment, as leaders, and positively impact the ecosystem around them - much like was done for us at Handsworth.
