Last night I had the opportunity to attend the Cape Town Chapter of SheSays. Yet again an exceptionally curated panel of guest with fantastic insight. This is what I got out.
- Don't be a dick...(yip it has been said before but really don't be a dick)
- Find your tribe
- The infamous bully. The wolf in sheep's clothing. They may change but it is not your responsibility to change them. Call them out on their BS. Ensure their manager is managing them. Hold people accountable.
- You are not a tree - it is ok to leave and you can leave
- It is hard to imagine but there are more women to support you than those who are toxic. Unfortunately, toxic people get more airtime - like a bad smell.
- Build people up. Gossip isn't adding any value. Enough with the trash talk shhhhhhh or say something valuable
- "Your silence will not save you" - Audrey Laud. If no one knows about the bully how in the world can they be held to account? Use your voice.
- Be your authentic self. Show up
- Be conscious and work on your misgivings...
- You are not rubbish. Never do yourself a disservice. You've got this!
Massive shout out to the Cape Town SheSays leaders @Anelde and @Johannie. You pulled together a great panel who share great insights.
Let's do this
