SPECIAL TO GOD

Many years ago, I met an Anglican priest through his daughter who was an acquaintance living in my neighborhood. Brian was kind and thoughtful, a man of deep faith. For my birthday in 2007, he gave me a precious gift - a white prayer booklet titled Special to God.?That booklet contains a short Bible verse on each page, followed by a short prayer or words of encouragement. Brian lives in Europe with his family, we keep in touch from time to time and I know he is reading this reflection.
You the reader are special to God. Think about that for a moment. Ponder these words. You are special to God our heavenly Father and Creator of the universe. How awesome is that? How unfathomable! How consoling and comforting it is to know that. God became incarnate, took on our human nature and dwells among us. Emmanuel. God is with us.?
God loves us more infinitely and more perfectly than any human being can ever love us because God's love is divine whereas our love is human and imperfect. Pope Francis reminds us over and over that God forgives everyone and everything, as long as we turn to Him in humility with our head down and ask his forgiveness.

No matter what we go through in life - grief, sadness, illness, betrayals and disappointments - God is with us. He consoles us and heals us because each one of us is special to Him. It is a wonderful feeling to know that we are special to our parents, our spouse, our spiritual father, our friends who care about us. How much more meaningful it is to know that we are special to God, that He will never abandon us, never disappoint us and never forsake us.
Is God special to us? Is God number one in our life? Saint Benedict teaches us to prefer nothing whatsoever to Christ.?God loved us first and created us out of love. Through his incarnation He gave us a share in his Divine life. The road to heaven is not a stroll in the park, it is hard and demands a serious and daily commitment to follow in the footsteps of Jesus, but the eternal reward is definitely worth it.
You are special to God.
