Special Forces Top Commander on How Special Forces Won WWII

World War II was the start of modern day Special Forces beginning with the Jedburgh Teams that parachuted deep behind enemy lines the night before D-Day. Their mission was to prevent the German Army from reinforcing the beaches of Normandy.

The Normandy Resistance Monument pays tribute to those first Special Forces teams who linked up with French Resistance Fighters, armed and equipped them, then conducted sabotage and subversion operations to disrupt them.

To commemorate the 80th Anniversary of D-Day, and the efforts of the Jedburghs and French Resistance, Fran Racioppi took a minute to speak with Major General Gil Ferguson; the Commanding General of 1st Special Forces Command (Airborne) - US Army . MG Ferguson shares his feelings standing in the fields of Normandy that served as the Jedburgh drop zones, what it means to honor their legacy, and how their efforts not only changed the world, but set the conditions for today's Special Forces units.

Check out the full conversation only on YouTube and don't miss our full D-Day coverage from the beaches of Normandy.

Excellent historical points. It is worth noting that the First Special Service Force (FSSF - Canada ???? and the United States ????) was a WWII unit that was also a “parent” of our Special Forces today.
