Special Events- Both Upcoming and Traditional

Historically, events such as the Miss Turks and Caicos Beauty Pageant, ?South Caicos Regatta, and North Caicos Festerama, seemed to hold such tremendous weight for the communities in Turks and Caicos in which they were held. When we look back at these events and what they have produced, one marvels at the weight they carried. This was at a time when Turks and Caicos was not even well known in the international community, as a destination. ?Carmelita Ariza was tremendously successful as an attendee at the Miss Universe pageant, placing in the top 10 finalists in the late 80s. She was that year’s winner of the Miss Turks and Caicos Pageant. To think that the Miss Turks and Caicos Pageant was able to produce such a candidate, reconfirms the understanding that there is power, even in small events with a cultural bend. They can indeed take an individual to the world stage, now even more so. As a tidbit, the annual?South Caicos Regatta, one of Turks and Caicos Islands’ oldest festivals,?was commenced following a royal visit by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the second,?who was then accompanied by His Royal Highness,?the Duke of Edinburgh Prince Phillip on February 25th, 1966.?
