I wanted to share key insights from the WSIS Future of Digital Cooperation event held on September 20, 2024, at the UN headquarters in New York. The event brought together dignitaries from South Africa, the UK, Romania, and other nations to discuss pressing issues in global digital cooperation. Here are some highlights: South Africa’s commitment to the SDGs, focused on digital checks and balances for national security. The UK’s concerns over Big Tech’s influence and the deepening class divide in cyberspace. Romania’s emphasis on balancing innovation with regulatory measures. The Global Digital Compact was launched to bridge digital and innovation divides while upholding human rights. The event underscored the importance of multi-stakeholder cooperation and highlighted the growing need to address inequalities in the global North and South. Please feel free to reach out if you'd like more detailed notes or further discussion on this topic.
