Special Edition Newsletter: "Agentic AI" Book Launch

Dear Visionary Friends,

I am thrilled to share some exciting news with you today!

After years of rolling up our sleeves and implementing AI agents across all kinds of organizations—from global enterprises to scrappy startups—I'm proud to announce the release of our new book: "Agentic Artificial Intelligence: Harnessing AI Agents to Reinvent Your Business, Work, and Life."

This book is truly a labor of love, bringing together our hands-on experience, research across 167 companies, and the collective wisdom of 27 brilliant minds from business, academia, and programming.

Rather than adding to the “agentic” hype, we've focused on sharing the ground truth about what works, what doesn't, and what truly matters when implementing AI agents.

The Reality Gap in Agentic AI

Our on-the-ground work has revealed a significant gap between the promise of AI agents and current capabilities. While tech leaders envision fully autonomous systems like Jarvis or Samantha, the reality is more nuanced:

  • Current AI agents are task-oriented, not job replacements. They excel at orchestrating well-defined workflows with clear instructions.
  • Deployment challenges often outweigh development difficulties. Many projects fail due to integration issues, data quality problems, lack of guardrails, or user adoption barriers.
  • Human oversight remains essential. The most successful implementations maintain humans in the loop for most agentic workflows.

This isn't to diminish the potential of agentic AI—rather, it's about setting realistic expectations and focusing on practical implementation strategies that deliver measurable value.

Real Results That Matter

Despite these limitations, the impact of properly implemented AI agents is undeniable. Our experience, confirmed by our research across 167 companies, shows consistent benefits:

  • Processes running 30-90% faster
  • Costs decreasing by 25-40%
  • Sales increasing by over 50%
  • Customer satisfaction rising by 20-40%

These numbers demonstrate the transformative power of well-designed and properly implemented agentic AI.

Strategic Perspective: What Leaders Need to Know

For executives, managers, and entrepreneurs, perhaps the most critical insight from our experience and research is this: the agentic AI revolution isn't just a technology shift—it's a fundamental business transformation that requires strategic vision.

Successful leaders start by asking strategic questions: How might AI agents change our business model? What new value could we create for customers? How will work and roles evolve as agents take on more tasks?

Entrepreneurs are witnessing significant "asymmetric advantages" arising in the market. Small teams leveraging AI agents can now provide services that once necessitated much larger organizations. This trend opens up extraordinary opportunities for nimble startups to rival established companies by sustaining streamlined operations while offering advanced solutions.

New Skills for the Agentic Era

One of the most striking discoveries from our implementations is that the human side of the equation matters just as much as the technology. Through dozens of deployments, we've identified a crucial set of skills that separate successful AI agent adopters from those who struggle.

We've developed what we call the "AI Agent Collaboration Capability Model," which outlines four fundamental skill transitions:

1.?From Task to Workflow Thinking: With generative AI, we focus on isolated tasks. Agentic AI requires understanding entire processes across departments and designing comprehensive systems that agents can orchestrate.

2.??From Control to Delegation: This means developing "oversight capabilities"—knowing when to trust the agent versus when to intervene. Teams that master this balance achieve results; those who micromanage create bottlenecks that negate efficiency gains.

3.??From Simple Interactions to True Collaboration: Instead of command-response patterns, agents need context-rich guidance and iterative refinement. Teams providing detailed objectives rather than step-by-step instructions saw 40% higher completion rates in complex tasks.

4.? From Augmentation to Value Creation: As agents handle routine tasks, humans must focus on uniquely human capabilities—genuine creativity, ethical judgment, relationship building, and emotional intelligence.

According to our experience, organizations that explicitly develop these capabilities through targeted training programs, mentoring, and guided practice see adoption rates three times higher than those focusing solely on technical implementation.

Tactical Implementation: Proven Practices from the Field

On the implementation front, we have identified specific tactical approaches that consistently deliver results. Here are some of them:

  1. Start with the sweet spot: Focus on opportunities where three factors converge—high business impact, technical feasibility, and reasonable implementation effort. This trifecta is where you'll find your quick wins.
  2. Build for human collaboration: The most successful agents augment human capabilities rather than replacing them entirely. Keep humans in the loop for quality assurance and strategic decisions.
  3. Use gradual implementation to build trust: A phased rollout approach dramatically improves user adoption. Begin with agents in "suggestion mode" where humans review and approve all actions, then gradually increase autonomy as confidence grows. This builds trust organically and gives users time to adapt to new workflows.
  4. Design for failure: Build in robust error handling, circuit breakers, and human escalation paths. Agents will fail—how they recover matters most.
  5. Start small, then scale: Begin with the smallest component that can deliver value, prove its worth, and then expand systematically.
  6. Standardize inputs and outputs: Strictly define the format of all inputs and outputs to prevent errors caused by mismatched data structures.
  7. Collect continuous feedback: Implement mechanisms to gather user input and system performance metrics to drive ongoing improvements.

These tactical insights represent hard-won lessons from our implementations across organizations of all sizes. While the technology continues to evolve rapidly, these principles have consistently separated successful projects from failures.

What You'll Find in the Book "Agentic Artificial Intelligence"

Our work has revealed clear patterns in what makes AI agent implementations succeed or fail, and we've distilled these insights into practical frameworks and actionable guidance:

Foundational Frameworks

  • The five-level Agentic AI Progression Framework to evaluate any AI agent's capabilities and choose the right level for your specific needs
  • The SPAR framework (Sense, Plan, Act, Reflect) to decode how agents operate and why this matters for implementation
  • The Three Keystones (Action, Reasoning, Memory) that transform simple AI into true agents

Practical Implementation Guidance

  • A step-by-step methodology for identifying high-value agentic opportunities in your work and organization
  • Detailed strategies for building your first agents, with guidance on selecting platforms, defining goals, and implementing safety measures
  • The Agent Economy Framework for entrepreneurs looking to create new businesses and revenue streams
  • Proven approaches to scaling AI implementations across organizations, with specific governance models

Real-World Applications

The book features diverse case studies showcasing practical applications: a retail company transforming operations with AI agents, a service company reducing onboarding time by 90%, a small startup managing multiple business functions with minimal staff, and our own experience scaling a newsletter to 300,000 subscribers in just one month.

Future-Focused Insights

  • The emergence of the "Agent-to-Agent Economy" where AI systems transact, negotiate, and collaborate autonomously, and their implications
  • The Three Competencies of the Future that will reshape professional success in the age of AI

Congrats on your new book launch Pascal BORNET !! One point I feel that might be obvious but gets missed in the hype and realm of possibilities or even the intricacies of the agentic implementations… is the cost / benefit analysis: - LLMs are not cheap to run, - enterprise & public ready implementations with safety nets, supervision, self improvement loops and guardrails are complex, - integrations with legacy systems and backward compatibility issues extend the project timelines - data quality and governance that is meant to fuel the agent for automated or autonomous decision making … So probably also important to be clear when NOT to use agents and use good old rule base business logic for fast and cheap results ;-) Eg: an agent that can check my calendar to find when I have time to take meetings ; seems like a waste of GPU, intelligence and Energy resources to me !! And same applies to AI generated cat videos …
