Special Edition: A Historic Conversation: Leading Beyond Politics, A Dialogue with Five Women Governors

In a world where leadership is often viewed through partisan lenses, the essence of leadership itself can be overshadowed. This edition of 'The Future is Female' transcends political boundaries and focuses on a landmark conversation that took place earlier this summer. It’s not just about women leading; it's about the qualities, experiences, and insights women bring to leadership.?

The Gathering

Earlier this summer, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer hosted a remarkable roundtable with Kansas Governor Laura Kelly, Maine Governor Janet Mills, Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey, and New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham. The conversation centered on women's leadership, a subject close to my heart and a core part of my mission.

Twelve women are governors in 2023 – an all-time high. Five of them sat down to discuss why women’s leadership is vital. They shared their experiences, challenges, and triumphs, all with the understanding that leadership transcends political affiliations and ideologies.

My Role and Appointment

I had the distinct honor of facilitating this conversation alongside Dr. Sabala Mandava, the past chair of the Michigan Women’s Commission, which co-hosted the Roundtable discussion.

It brings me great joy to share that the Governor of Michigan appointed me as Chair of the Commission in July. This new responsibility allows me to contribute to a cause deeply connected with our shared vision: advancing women's leadership.?

The release of the video of this groundbreaking conversation is scheduled for Women's Equality Day on Saturday, August 26th. This day commemorates the 19th Amendment to the US Constitution that granted women the right to vote, a landmark in women's journey toward equality and representation.
