Special brewing event to help victims of human trafficking.

Special brewing event to help victims of human trafficking.

When I am not spending time as an insurance professional, I enjoy the art of making craft beer. Several years ago my wife purchased a home brewing kit from the Hop Shop, in Bloomington Illinois, which started me on this journey. As my interests and desire to improve my skills grew, I took courses at the Master Brewer Academy in Miami FL. Taking these classes gave me access to some of the best brewers Florida had to offer, as well as introducing me to a new friend Samuel Phanor . Sam and I took the knowledge that we gained through MBA and started brewing together in my garage. With the love and support from my wife Saundra (and help with cleaning up the mess we make) and Sam's girlfiend Samantha, we entered our first competition together. We missed winning the People's Choice by 1 vote. Motivated by the good showing we went back at it and won the next event that we entered. Sam has entrepreneur spirit and is the founder of and organization called The One Lyfe. The One Lyfe's mission is to raise money to provide assistance to victims of human trafficking. With the relationships developed through the MBA program we have been able to partner with several South Florida Breweries to collaborate on beer releases which would raise money for victims of human trafficking through a local organization named Kristi House. Kristi House is a not-for-profit 501(c)3 responsible for coordinating child-victims’ legal, medical, and social services needs. Thanks to the the support from Yeasty Brews, Orchestrated Minds, 3 Sons, and Chainbridge Distilling we have been able to raise over $6,000 for victims of human trafficking.

Our next project is going to be the best one yet. Working with Matt Manthe of Odd Breed Wild Ales we have re-brewed the award winning Imperial Stout. Matt is one of the most highly regarded brewers and recently won a gold medal at the Great American Beer Festival. It is a special small batch stout that has complexity in flavor as it has in the meaning behind it’s release. We accomplished this by fermenting this special batch with Norwegian Farmhouse Ale yeast before resting in an American Oak Barrel, which was previously used to hold Odd Breed's Imperial Wild Ale, Reality is Obscure. This complex stout delivers fruity notes of blackberries and black plums on top of decadent notes of dark chocolate, fresh espresso, and caramel ribbon. The finish is full bodied and perfectly balances sweetness, bitterness, and light acidity. This beer is lightly carbonated, and will evolve for years in the bottle. We are excited to announce that Sam and Samantha of The One Lyfe are now opening a brewery under the name Savage Lyfe.

Please join us at Odd Breed in Pompano Beach, FL on Saturday October 8th at 5 PM as we release this limited edition Wild Imperial Stout. All proceeds will be donated to Kristi House to aid victims of human trafficking. This promises to be a great event that helps an important cause in our community. Wow! What a wonderful endeavor that lead to a beautiful story! I’m HUGE in to craft beer and was so happy to see the word STOUT on that bottle. Congrats to the entire crew. Keep spreading the love! Best to you my friend! I’ll have to try one of those out when I’m down that way.

We had a fun evening and a great turnout. We sold all bottles and draft of Sam’s Stout. The event was successful at raising over $2,300 for Kristi House. Thank you to all for your support. Samuel Phanor
