Before you speak let the words pass through 3 gates
There is a legend about Gautam Buddha, When a man walks to Buddha and seeks his permission to transmit a piece of information about his disciple. Buddha asked the man to wait and let the piece of information pass a test, which consists of 3 different questions which he calls gates The three questions were 1. Whether the information is TRUE 2. Whether the information is necessary / important 3. Whether the information was good of the person. when asked the all the answers were NO. In turn Buddha said. " Look the piece of information which you are about to give me is nor true, neither necessary and is not at all good. then why transmit the information at all !! Buddhism claims that?four communication principles must be preserved in order to reach harmony among human beings, those are Truthfulness, Usefulness, Kindness and Peace.
The story might be a legend or might be constructed later on and put characters in it. But the moral is true. We all communicate with each other in on or the other way. Now i am not going to lecture about the modes of communication or bore you with the history which is already there in abundant on internet.
I am going to write about an interesting meaning of LISTENING.. yes recently I came across this and thought that I should share the same with others. Mind you this writing is not entirely mine and if anybody will let me know about the author i will give due credit to him/her .

E = Evaluate the message
N = Neutralize your feelings
L = look interested / Get interested - When we are listening, we should look interested, which will make the orator believe that he is being heard, and the quality of delivery will be excellent, moreover the more you are interested, you tend to listen and not just hear.
I = Involve yourself by responding - The most trickey part. when to respond while a lecture is being delivered, good question ! it is always good to take notes while you are attending a lecture where in you can ask apt question at the end of it.
S = Stay on target - Don't focus on the orator, but on the deliverables, don't get overwhelmed by the speaker. focus on what is being told.
T = Test your understanding - always take notes and check afterwards, what is being told is understood. sketch notes is the best to understand what is being told.
E = Evaluate the message - listening shows your ability to process information and then formulate into your own feelings, need not follow entirely what is being told, add your own feelings, try to relate and then put to practice. ?
N = Neutralize your feelings - your thoughts while listening must be neutralize, non-biased or non-prejudiced. this must be plain hearing and listening. If this aspect is forgotten while listening we tend to listen what we are thinking at that moment. Try to be with empty mind as far as possible.
disclaimer : - The long form of LISTEN came in my reading somewhere and as a habit i jotted down the same. however the elaboration is entirely mine and is not copied from the internet if any resemblance is found please bring it to my notice
