Speaking at TEDx JNEC

Never let your ‘fear’ talk you out of anything - my ted talk experience reinforced this belief in me. As the days of ted talk were approaching, I told my mom several times that call up the organizers and tell them a ‘no’. I was nervous, fearful and was really scared of messing up. 

But I realised that opportunities like this don’t come often. My mission to empower the deaf and disabled is possible only if I do not allow my fears to get the better of me. I daily practiced the speech in front of the mirror for hours before I reached the venue @tedx_jnec The warm welcome and the reception I received from the organizers and the stage I was given to practice helped me further. I pulled all-nighters on the ted stage and practised my talk. Hard work is the antidote to any fear, doubt and insecurity. When I gave my talk it was the opposite of what I had imagined. The people were moved by my story and struggles and there were people who teared up. My talk received a standing ovation, the first in it’s history of TEDx JNEC And amidst all the applause and appreciation, I was smiling but still shivering with nervousness within. My honesty in my speech moved people and helped them connect to my story.

I am glad that life gives me challenging opportunities one after the other so that I rise up to the occasion. Because disabled or not, each person longs to be heard, valued and appreciated for the power they carry within. And we all have that power, however deep or hidden it might be.
