Speaking or presenting? Get iSMART!

After more than 10,000 appearances on stage, radio and screen - here at Great Talk, we believe everyone has the ability to become a more masterful storyteller.

The problem is, storytelling is more art than science! We don't believe in plug-and-play structures, frameworks or templates to help our speakers find a captivating story, worthy of sharing in front of an audience.

To find your narrative can take a little work (and by a little, we mean a LOT!) however, for those of you who cling to a template like a security blankey... here's one we created for our speakers to clarify their intent and structure in a simple and efficient way.

We call it: iSMART ...and it's a simple checklist to ensure every chunk of your presentation or speech is filled with meaning that moves your audience to think differently and do something new.

Here's the short version of iSmart:

i dea. What's your big idea and how is it going to improve the lives of your audience and the world?

S tory. What story can you share that demonstrates the global imperative for your idea and what's at stake if we refuse the call?

M essage. What is the ONE core message you want your audience to understand and be able to repeat after your speech?

A ction. What do you want your audience to do with the information you're sharing, what is the specific action you want them to take?

R eward. How will my life get better if I try a new approach to working and living?

And finally...

'T' is for Theme... what's the overall theme you'd like your audience to understand? Is it 'triumphing over evil' or dark versus light. Is it 'overcoming the fear of failure' or 'love and sacrifice' - you choose! A theme is an underlying unifying subject or idea that helps us to relate to your story on a more emotional level.

That's it. Simples! ??  #totesnotsimples

Crafting a compelling story that inspires people to do something different is a laborious but rewarding and vital task if you want to be a successful speaker or presenter.

Please feel free to use the Great Talk iSMART Method to craft your next awesome keynote or presentation! The world needs YOU to perform at your best right now and the iSMART approach will ensure you're honouring your audiences' time and you'll love seeing your message become clearer and more powerful. A ll it takes is a little work (again... when we say a little... we mean a LOT!) ??

Thanks for your time... great talk!
